Best Goalkeepers to Rotate in FPL

Last modified date

We continue our coverage by covering the best goalkeepers to rotate in FPL. Whether that be for the first six Gameweeks, the first 11 Gameweeks or right up until the halfway point in Gameweek 19, we take a look at the fixtures and put together the best cheap goalkeepers to own at the start of the campaign.

Knowing who the best goalkeepers to rotate in FPL can be a crucial part of your strategy for the season ahead. Rotating goalkeepers doesn’t always work but based on the data and fixtures it could well work for the season ahead.

Gameweek 1-6

Some may decide to Wildcard around Gameweek 6, so if that is the case the following pairings could be extremely helpful.

Rotating both Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez and Mark Flekken could work well between Gameweek 1-6. Both come in at the budget price of £4.5m and both play for sides who have good defensive qualities.

Using the fixture ticker that we pulled from Fantasy Football Scout we mapped out both of their fixtures in the first six matches.

You will notice that by pairing both you can avoid Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham in that order. This will give you fixtures against Crystal Palace, Wolves, Southampton, Bournemouth, West Ham and then West Ham again.

Robert Sanchez seems like one of the best goalkeepers (providing he cements the number one role), to start the season with when it comes to rotating with another player.

As we can see, pairing the Chelsea man with Matz Sels (£4.5m) could also be beneficial.

Pairing Sanchez and Sels together in the first six Gameweeks would mean avoiding Manchester City and Liverpool. It would also give you meetings with Bournemouth, Southampton, Wolves, Bournemouth, West Ham and then Fulham.

Gameweek 1-12

Gameweek 12 seems to be another popular time to use the Wildcard. This would mean pairing two goalkeepers up until the end of Gameweek 11.

With the above in mind, Brentford’s Mark Flekken and Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson (£4.5m) should be a consideration. Henderson plays for a side who ranked fourth best amongst all teams last season for expected goals conceded.

Below we can see both Flekken’ and Henderson’ schedule. We can also see that pairing them both up would avoid meetings with Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham again.

The above would give you Crystal Palace or Brentford, West Ham, Southampton, Leicester, Manchester United, West Ham or Everton, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Fulham or Wolves and Bournemouth or Fulham.

Gameweek 1-6 duo Robert Sanchez and Mark Flekken could remain a great pairing right up until Gameweek 11 however.

Sticking with Sanchez and Flekken would mean less rotating than the pair mentioned above.

As well as missing two fixtures against Liverpool and two fixtures against Manchester City Sanchez and Flekken would also avoid clashes against Newcastle and Arsenal.

The only fixture that could cause some doubt is when Mark Flekken faces Manchester United.

Gameweek 1-19

Some within the community may not know when they want to use the Wildcard. This would mean looking all of the way up to Gameweek 19 (the half way point) potentially a sensible move.

If that is the case then it may be Mark Flekken and Dean Henderson who have the most potential.

Based on the fixtures above you can see that the pairing of Flekken and Henderson would avoid a tough fixture right the way through to Gameweek 19. It would also mean starting a goalkeeper in six fixtures against promoted sides.

Yet again however, we can see that Robert Sanchez and Mark Flekken remains a strong goalkeeper pairing.

Owning both Sanchez and Flekken through to Gameweek 19 would mean no tough fixtures. We would however be forced to play Flekken against Manchester United in Gameweek 8 and either Sanchez against Tottenham or Flekken against Newcastle in Gameweek 15.
