Best Gameweek 1 fixtures

The first FPL deadline of the season is on Friday. FPL managers will therefore be looking to finalise their squads. To help with these decisions we take a look at the teams with the best fixtures in Gameweek 1.

Fantasy Football Scout members have the opportunity to sort the Fixture Ticker by difficulty. This means that they are able to see how difficult the matches are over a range they have specified. Members are also able to sort the Fixture Ticker by defence and attack. You can sign up as a Fantasy Football Scout member here.

We have sorted the Fixture Ticker by difficulty and the four teams that sit top are Newcastle, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Spurs. Newcastle, Villa and Liverpool all play a newly promoted side in Gameweek 1.

Newcastle

Newcastle face Nottingham Forrest in Gameweek 1. This fixture see’s them top of the Fixture Ticker.

Players such as Keiran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Matt Target could all therefore be great picks ahead of the deadline.

Newcastle had a fantastic end to the 2021/22 season and if that form continues into this season they could be a great target for Gameweek 1.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa travel to Bournemouth in Gameweek 1. This leaves them second on the Fixture Ticker.

Villa have had a great pre-season under Steven Gerrard and look good investments for FPL managers.

Matt Cash played every game for Aston Villa last season and returned 20 returns. These returns were a combination of goals, assists and clean sheets. He therefore could be a great pick for Gameweek 1.

Likewise Leon Bailey has drawn a lot of praise from manager Gerrard this summer. He could be a good differential for FPL managers ahead of Gameweek 1.

Liverpool

Liverpool play Fulham in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday. The fixture leaves the Reds third on the Fixture Ticker. This fixture will make FPL managers invest heavily in the Merseyside club.

Mo Salah will likely be the most captained player in the game this week. He will be a difficult player to leave out of FPL teams ahead of this Gameweek’s fixture.

Likewise Trent Alexander-Arnold will be a popular choice, with Andy Robertson a good option if managers need to save £0.5m.

Tripling up either with Alisson or Luis Diaz alongside Alexander-Arnold and Salah could be wise ahead of this fixture.

Spurs

Spurs welcome Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in Gameweek 1. Spurs have had an excellent pre-season and have added personal to their squad.

FPL managers are struggling to budget for Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in their FPL squads meaning that their ownership is lower than normal. Therefore picking them ahead of a nice fixture could have a positive impact on managers overall ranks at the end of the opening Gameweek.

Kane avarages 7.29 points per match against Southampton. Meanwhile Son averages 7.23 points against the Saints. This makes them not only great picks but also good captaincy options.
