The most notable name among the top 10 is of course Bruno Fernandes. The Manchester United penalty taker ranks second highest among midfielders for total defcons so far. Whilst his schedule is tough – with games against Chelsea and Manchester City coming up, Fernandes has displayed multiple avenues to points this season.
As expected, there is little attacking threat among most of the players pictured above. However, one asset who has produced offensive points is Liverpool’ Dominik Szoboszlai. Although short of returns in his first two Gameweeks, Szoboszlai bagged a goal against Arsenal in Gameweek 3.
Elliot Anderson was a player many looked to prior to the season due to his defcon potential. However, the Nottingham Forest man is the only midfielder in the top 10 with a 0% success rate. Anderson hit 11 defensive contributions in each of his first three matches, but was just one shy of the defcon threshold.
Chelsea’ Moises Caicedo is another player many had high hopes for. Caicedo hit more defcons than any other midfielder last season, and his form seems to have continued. As well as hitting the defcon threshold in two of his first three matches, he also found the net against West Ham.
One player in particular has been 100% effective for hitting the defcon threshold. Brighton’ Mats Wieffer produced 31 defensive contributions in just two matches. This helped him secure an additional two points in Gameweek 1 and 2.
