Goalkeepers

Several budget options have good fixtures this week and two of them are Bournemouth’ Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.5m) and West Ham’ Alphonse Areola (£4.2m).

For managers who aren’t keen on double Bournemouth defence against Ipswich, then Areola is your man. However, for those looking to take an aggressive approach, Arrizabalaga could be a great option.

Defenders

Crystal Palace face the worst team in the league next, Southampton. Not only is this a good opportunity to keep a clean sheet, we could also see an attacking return from the brilliant Daniel Munoz (£5.1m), who leads all but one in his position for expected goals this season.

Ranking above every other team for multiple underlying defensive metrics this season is Arsenal. The Gooners face Fulham, which could see centre-back Gabriel (£6.4m) display his goal threat from set-plays, as well as clean sheet potential.

Back-to-back assists in his previous three matches makes Milos Kerkez (£5.2m) one of the most in-form defenders from an attacking perspective. He could also keep a clean sheet against a poor Ipswich attack, so has multiple routes to points.

On the bench and enabling funds to the rest of the squad is Newcastle’ Dan Burn (£4.4m) and Ipswich centre-back Luke Woolfenden (£3.9m). Both are unlikely to feature for us, especially the latter.

Midfielders

Southampton have maintained the worst defensive line in the league, and all the data backs that. Because of this, targeting them with the cheap Ismaila Sarr (£5.6m), after he bagged back-to-back double-digit hauls in his previous two games, could be rewarding.

With question marks around Cole Palmer’ fitness, and injuries to both Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson, Chelsea seem to be becoming reliant on Christopher Nkunku (£5.7m). The Blues face Tottenham next, who have been poor defensively, and Nkunku will take penalties if Palmer isn’t fit enough to play.

Ipswich rank second worst among all teams for total big chances conceded, which could mean plenty of potential for the Bournemouth attack. Their only reliable asset in terms of consistency is penalty taker Justin Kluivert (£6.3m).

He may have blanked in Gameweek 29, but Mohamed Salah (£13.7m) is back with a fixture against local rivals Everton this week. The Egyptian has broken his own FPL records this season, and that shows how relentless he has been.

Manchester United are yet to convince, and they meet with surprise package of the season Nottingham Forest. In attack Anthony Elanga (£5.3m) comes in nice and cheap, and could be a great option off the bench if another attacker fails to feature.

Forwards

Taking into account Southampton’ woeful defence and the fact he is back in full training, star man and penalty taker Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.5m) could have huge potential. The Frenchman has returned at least once in each of his last four league matches.

Another penalty taker facing a poor promoted side this week is Erling Haaland (£14.8m). The Manchester City man has been in great form recently – bagging a return in six of his previous seven games. Leicester good be a fantastic opportunity for the Norwegian to extend that form. If confirmed out due to his recent injury then teammate Omar Marmoush (£7.3m) could be his best replacement.

Only Southampton have conceded more shots on target than Brentford this season. Cup winners Newcastle go into the game high in confidence. Leading their effective frontline is penalty taker Alexander Isak (£9.3m). The 25-year-old has already managed a huge 29 goals and five assists this campaign.
