We also looked at the highest scoring players in each position. See which players have performed the best, and how they picked up their points.

Two players take joint top, and one of them is Marcos Senesi (£4.5m). Senesi produced a huge 43 defensive contributions in just three Gameweeks. Paired with two clean sheets and an assist, and the Argentine has been a fantastic asset for FPL managers.

Centre-back Virgil Van Dijk (£6m) matches Senesi for defcons, but racked up just 14 points. The Dutchman bagged just one clean sheet in his first three matches, but met and exceeded the defensive contributions threshold on two occasions.

Crystal Palace feature more heavily than other sides with assets in the top 10. Both Maxence Lacroix (£5m) and Chris Richards (£4.5m) make the list after an impressive start to the season. As well as keeping two clean sheets, Lacroix exceeded the defcon threshold in two of his three games.

Everton are another side who have benefitted from the introduction of defcon points. Both James Tarkowski (£5.5m) and Michal Keane (£4.5m) have racked up 36 defensive contribution so far. The Toffees are short of clean sheets though – collecting just one from their first three outings.

Joachim Andersen (£4.5m) is another player who has ticked away. The Fulham centre-back is yet to keep a single clean sheet this season, but he did collect the additional two points for defcons in two of his three games.

We can also see Brentford’ Sepp van den Berg (£4.5m), Burnley’ Hjalmar Ekdal (£4m), and Sheffield United’ Reinildo (£4m) make the list. This could a be a good indication that lesser defences or weaker sides can offer potential via defenders.
