Best differentials for FPL

The new campaign is drawing closer which means fantasy managers have to start considering how they want to approach the season. For managers looking to start a little bit different from the template we provide the best differentials in FPL to start the season with right here.

Picking out some of the best differentials to start the season can be really helpful to fantasy managers. A differential is a player owned by less than 10% of managers. Differentials can be key to gaining rank and an edge over our competition.

Jack Grealish

Manchester City were fantastic last season which ultimately helped them clinch another Premier League title. During that time they maintained some of the best attacking stats in the division. The reigning champions start their campaign with matches against Burnley, Newcastle, Sheffield United, Fulham, West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

Whilst many look to Phil Foden (£7.5m) as another route into the relentless attack some could choose a more reliable option in terms of minutes. Jack Grealish became integral to Manchester City’ starting line-up last season whilst notching up five goals and seven assists.

Ben Chilwell

Chelsea really struggled to maintain any sort of consistency last season and they finished their campaign in 12th place. That may be but a lot has changed for the Blues after securing Mauricio Pochettino as manager and the return of key players from injury.

The arrival of the new boss has fans excited and early signs suggest the full-backs will take up a more advanced role. This bodes well for both Reece James (£5.5m) and Ben Chilwell (£5.5m). However, with the former recovering from injury scare and illness, the latter could be their safest bet.

Pascal Groß & Solly March

Brighton became one of the most investable sides in the game last season due to their budget players and top form. Last season offensively they maintained some great data – ranking fourth best for goals (72), first for attempts on goal (613) and first for shots on target (225).

Many within the FPL community have selected Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m) in their early drafts but fellow midfielders Pascal Groß (£6.5m) and Solly March (£6.5m) should also be considered. Pascal Groß managed to accumulate more FPL points than any of his teammates last season whilst Solly March ranked the highest for both chances and big chances created.

Other great differentials

  • George Baldock (£4m – defender) – Baldock is the only £4m paying defender that does not blank in Gameweek 2 and also plays in a wing-back system allowing him to advance forward.
  • Rico Henry (£4.5m – defender) – Brentford have great starting fixtures and Henry led his defensive teammates for non-penalty expected goal involvement last season.
  • Son Heung-min (£9m- midfielder) – After a poor season Son took a huge price-drop. Under a new manager the Korean could regain his 21/22 form where he racked up 23 goals and seven assists.
  • Pedro Porro (£5m – defender) – After a tough start to his Tottenham career Porro started to settle fast – collecting four attacking returns in his last six league matches. He also ranked joint second amongst defenders for NPXGI per 90 minutes (0.33).
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6m – striker) – Everton may have struggled last season but there was clear improvements under the management of Sean Dyche. Not only does DCL lead his attacking line and take penalties but his side also have great starting fixtures.
  • Iliman Ndiaye (£5.5m – striker) – Ndiaye faces Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Everton in his first four fixtures giving him potential. He also banked 14 goals and 10 assists in the Championship last season.
