Best Captains for UCL Fantasy Matchday 13

Last modified date

Confusion around captaincy is a common thing in fantasy football, and many are unsure who to give the armband. Here, we take a look at the options and pick out the best captains for UCL Fantasy Matchday 13.

This week UCL Fantasy managers can captain a player on Tuesday, then change on Wednesday if they aren’t happy. Let’s take a look at the options.

There are several great options for captaincy on Tuesday, so backing a player with a home fixture could give UCL Fantasy managers the edge. From two players standout players who fit that bill, it could be Bukayo Saka (€9m) who has the most appeal, based on fixture difficulty.

Whilst Bayern striker Harry Kane (€10.8m) is tempting, he faces Inter, who have conceded just two goals in the entire competition. In contrast, Arsenal midfielder and penalty taker Bukayo Saka (€9m), clashes with a ropey Real Madrid defence, one that has failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight matches.

Saka has plenty of appeal this week. As well as being a midfielder and benefitting from the additional points for a clean sheet and every goal scored, he has also been one of the most efficient players in the Premier League in terms of output – bagging six goals and 10 assists in 16 matches.

Breaching the solid Inter defence wouldn’t be a complete surprise from the Bavarians. The German giants have averaged 2.9 goals per game in the Bundesliga, and 2.3 goals in the Champions League. Spearheading their lethal attack is penalty taker Kane, who has bagged five goals and two assists in his previous six club matches.

UCL Fantasy managers would do well to consider Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe (€11.1m). Real Madrid face one of the Premier League’ toughest defences, but one that recently lost key defender Gabriel due to injury. Mbappe has had an excellent debut season at Los Blancos, with 29 goals across both La Liga and the Champions League.

Wednesday 9th April

Best Captains for UCL Fantasy Matchday 13

Wednesday is great day for captaincy options. Whilst PSG’ home fixture against Aston Villa could be tempting, the French side have found it difficult to break down well drilled teams recently, which could give Barcelona assets the edge.

The Catalans have been a thrill to watch this season. This is largely due to their relentless attack – the fact they lead the way for goals across all major tournaments is reflective of that. We also have to take into account that they come up against a very inconsistent Dortmund side.

Now, there are plenty of Barcelona assets we should consider, but the one most likely to return is penalty taker Robert Lewandowski (£9.6m), who leads the frontline. As well as having penalty taking duty, Lewandowski has also notched up a massive 34 goals in the Champions League and La Liga combined. A huge nine of those goals came in the latter.

Lewandowski isn’t the only reason for Barcelona’ scintillating attacking form, Raphinha (€7.7m) has also played a major role. With an eye-watering 11 goals and five assists in just 10 outings, the Brazilian midfielder has been one of the stars of the Champions League this season. The fact he takes set-pieces also gives him another edge over most other assets in the game.

PSG arguably have the easiest fixture on paper, against the inexperienced Aston Villa. That may be the case, but their coach is a top talent in knock-out games, proven by his history. Stopping the free-scoring PSG attack though is easier said than done. Midfielder Ousmane Dembele (€8.5m) is the clear standout in attack. The Frenchman has arguably been one of the best players in Europe this season – having amassed 21 goals and five assists in Ligue 1, and seven goals and one assist in 10 UCL games.
