Best Captains for EURO Fantasy Matchday 5

We continue our coverage of the summer tournament by picking out the best captains for EURO Fantasy Matchday 5. Using form, underlying stats and other factors we reel off some of the best captains for the final.

Figuring out the best captains for EURO Fantasy Matchday 5 could be vital to the overall success of your round. Captaincy has been difficult to nail down this campaign so picking a captain is even more important this week.

Saturday July 6th

Friday wasn’t a great night for captaincy unless you backed one of the France or Portugal defensive assets. For managers looking for a return we have just one night to secure one.

Amongst the best captains on Saturday is of course Cody Gakpo (€7.5m). Netherlands have been impressing as of late and their game against Romania was one of three in which they netted 2-3 goals.

Türkiye won’t be easy to get a result from based on their recent match against Austria, but they more than underwhelm when it comes to defensive data. In fact, when compared to every other side in the competition they rank second worst for big chances conceded.

Gakpo has played a major role in the Netherlands scoring form mentioned above. Although lacking superiority when it comes to player data Gakpo has both confidence and an aurar of inevitability around him. The fact he has managed three goals and one assist so far reinforces that.

Fellow forward and teammate Memphis Depay (€7.5m) could be a great alternative. Depay takes most of his sides set pieces which is a huge appeal. He also ranks amongst the best players in the game for metrics like big chances and shots inside the box.

England could be an alternative option for captaincy. They come up against Switzerland next which could prove testing. The Swiss have been very good so far but they have also conceded in three of their four matches. This suggests that we could target their defence.

Although full of talented attackers we are yet to see England fulfil their attacking potential. What we have seen however are glimpses of special moments from two special players. One of those players is Harry Kane (€11m). The penalty taker has scored two goals in his four matches so far, a total matched by his teammate Jude Bellingham (€9.5m). He is another player who could be considered for the armband.

Those looking to captain a defender then Netherlands could be the side to back. The Dutch have an array of different options capable of both a clean sheet and ball recoveries. It could be a case of captain whoever you own from Denzel Dumfries (€5.5m) or Nathan Ake (€5.5m). Both players also have attacking threat which increases their overall appeal.
