Best Captains for EURO Fantasy Matchday 4

We continue our coverage of the summer tournament by picking out the best captains for EURO Fantasy Matchday 4. Using form, underlying stats and other factors we reel off the best captain for all four days of the second round.

Figuring out the best captains for EURO Fantasy Matchday 4 could be vital to the overall success of your week. After a mostly disappointing week it all comes down to the final day for managers to pick up a significant return.

Sunday 30th June

Sunday is full of great captaincy options and it could be the day many expect a captaincy to stick.

England have been disappointing and there can be no doubts about that. However, with the talent they have at their disposal it may be a matter of time before they are firing from an offensive perspective. If that happens then Harry Kane (€11m) will be the one to benefit.

After 40+ goal contributions for Bayern last season Kane sustained his position as one of the best strikers on the planet. Class is permanent, that is something we hear in the football industry a lot and that’s relevant here. If the above wasn’t enough to give him the armband then the fact he takes penalties and has scored already in the competition may be.

Kane is a fantastic option but others may prefer giving the captaincy to a Spain attacker. As well as winning all three of their matches Spain rank higher than any other side in the competition for underlying attacking metrics so far. Combined with Georgia’ woeful defensive stats we could look to main man Alvaro Morata (€8.5m) who has also found the net once already during the campaign.

Other players with captaincy potential include Spain midfielder Nico Williams (€7m) and Jude Bellingham (€9.5m).

Monday 1st July

The heavy weight clash between France and Belgium could be a tough one to predict so it could be more beneficial to utilise the captaincy armband in the other Monday match.

Portugal have started their campaign extremely well, winning two, keeping two clean sheets and sustaining some of the best attacking metrics in the tournament.

With the above in mind, combined with their fixture against Slovenia, the Portugal players seem prime for lots of potential this week.

The standout attacker appears to be midfielder Bruno Fernandes (€9m). As well as impressing in Qualifying and scoring in the current campaign Fernandes also takes his sides set pieces, which provides him with additional routes to points.

Striker Cristiano Ronaldo (€10m) remains a great option for captaincy. Ronaldo was brilliant in Qualifying and although mostly underwhelming with just an assist so far he still leads a very creative frontline whilst also on penalty duty.

Alternatively managers could back France striker Kylian Mbappe (€11m). Belgium have been far from convincing so far and penalty taker Mbappe has a fantastic record against stronger opposition.

Tuesday 2nd July

For those unfortunate enough not to pick up a significant captaincy return in the days prior then don’t worry because we have two fantastic teams to target on the final day.

Netherlands although inconsistent in terms of results are proven goal scorers. This makes them an attractive proposition for captaincy on Tuesday. The Dutch come up against Romania and other than a first round win against Ukraine have failed to convince defensively.

Because of the above Netherlands striker and likely penalty taker Memphis Depay (€7.5m) could be the standout. Depay has been prolific for country over the years and although he had a slow start in the first two rounds he finally found the net against Austria. Leading the line and ranking amongst the best for big chances total so far both contribute to his overall captaincy appeal this week.

Austria are another side who have convinced offensively. As well as putting Poland to the sword in their 3-1 victory they also beat Netherlands 3-2 in the final Group Stage Round. Türkiye also lay ahead for them, a side who so far rank second worst for big chances conceded.

The above helps an Austria midfielder into the spotlight. Deciding between Marcel Sabitzer (€6.5m) and Christoph Baumgartner (€6.5m) could be a interesting tussle. The former has expected minutes and set pieces whilst the latter is more of a direct goal threat.
