The player you select as your captain will earn you double points in any given round. Captaincy is one of the biggest contributors to your overall score and rank. Because of this, finding out the best captain for Gameweek 3 could be key.

Gameweek 3 fixtures

Below we can see the fixture ticker – it has ordered the matches in difficulty order. According to the ticker the teams at the top have the easiest fixtures and the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures.

The fixture ticker can be very useful when trying to pick out a captain but other factors should also be considered.

Nicolas Jackson v Luton (Home)

Chelsea have started the season questionably but they showed huge promise in pre-season. The Blues played five matches, won three, drew twice and remained unbeaten. Although Chelsea have failed to win any of their two early games they have a great opportunity ahead.

Chelsea face Luton in Gameweek 3. The Hatters were well beaten against Brighton in Gameweek 1 and look like a team to target. In fact, in terms of defensive data in the first round they ranked the worst for shots in the box conceded (20), the worst for total attempts on goal conceded (27) and second worst for big chances conceded (six).

One player we could consider to target Luton is Nicolas Jackson (£7m). The 22-year-old has shown promise – he bagged two goals and three assists in the pre-season. He may not have converted in his first two matches but the data is there. In fact, amongst all forwards in the game so far he sits joint fourth for attempts on goal (six), joint fourth for shots in the box (six) and joint first for big chances total (three).

Bruno Fernandes v Nottingham Forest (Home)

Another team that has had a rocky start to the new campaign is Manchester United. The Reds had a mixed pre-season – they played eight matches, won four, lost three and drew once. They have also won once and lost once in their first two matches.

Manchester United also have a great chance to get back on track this week with their match against Nottingham Forest at home. Forest have started the season well but last season amongst all teams they ranked the third worst for shots in the box conceded, third worst for attempts form set plays conceded and the fourth worst team for big chances conceded.

One player who has failed to return but maintained fantastic offensive data so far is Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m). The midfielder has been one of the most creative players in the league so far and amongst all players ranks joint second for big chances created (two) but first for non-penalty expected goal involvement (2.12). Fernandes also takes penalties which gives him another potential route to points.

Erling Haaland v Sheffield United (Away)

Manchester City are one of few teams who have been convincing in every sense of the word. The league holders have won both of their first two fixtures so far and netted four times. They also sustained the best attacking data in the league last campaign.

Newly promoted side Sheffield United look like a great team to target moving forward. The Blades lost both of their first two matches to Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. They also conceded some concerning data – ranking joint second worst for total attempts conceded (40), the worst for headed attempts conceded (12) and second worst for attempts conceded from set plays (14).

Erling Haaland (£14m) stands out as the most obvious Manchester City attacking option. The Norwegian is owned by more than 90% of FPL managers so his ownership his extremely high. His quality can be reflected in the fact he topped every other player in the game last season for points. In addition he also takes his sides penalties which gives him another potential route to points.

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 3?

The stats and fixtures may be good for both Bruno Fernandes and Nicolas Jackson but both of their clubs have shown questionable form since the start of the season whilst both players have also failed to covert their great stats into goal contributions.

The best captain for Gameweek 3 is without a doubt Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has shown relentless consistency since joining Manchester City and his side have started the season as strongly as many would have expected. Haaland plays for one of the best offensive sides in the league, takes penalties and faces a Sheffield United side who have conceded poor defensive stats.
