Best Captain for Gameweek 28

The new round of Fantasy Premier League is approaching so we take a look at the candidates and pick out the best captain for Gameweek 28. To do this we use some of the fantastic tools in the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area.

Knowing who the best captain for Gameweek 28 is can be huge factor towards the success you have this week. Two teams have a Double Gameweek in the round ahead so many within the community could be unsure of who to give the most important responsibility to.

Gameweek 28 Fixtures

The Options – Erling Haaland

Things couldn’t be much better for Manchester City right now in terms of form. In fact, in their last six league matches they have won five, drawn one and netted 11 times. When compared to every other team in the same period they sit fourth best for goals scored, first for total attempts on goal, the best for shots in the box and second best for big chances total.

Manchester City have a huge match against title rivals Liverpool this week. The Reds have won five of their last six league matches kept just one clean sheet. However, in the last six matches they also rank amongst the best five teams for most defensive metrics. What is interesting however is the fact they also sit fifth worst for big chances conceded.

Leading the Manchester City attack is Erling Haaland (£14.5m). Recent form shows that the Norwegian has collected at least one return in five of his last six league games. When it comes to the data in the same period he also ranks the best for non-penalty expected goal involvement, second best for total attempts, top for shots in the box and the best for big chances total.

Dominic Solanke

Bournemouth are one of two teams that have a Double Gameweek this week. Double Gameweeks have the potential to provide two opportunities for players to return. The Cherries have been inconsistent recently – winning one, drawing three, losing two matches and scoring seven goals in their last six league games.

Bournemouth don’t just have a Double Gameweek this week, but they have one of the best Double Gameweek’ on paper. Both Sheffield United and Luton lay ahead next up. Both promoted sides have been torrid defensively this season – making up two of the worst three sides in the division for total goals conceded.

One player who looks set to take advantage of the fixtures ahead is Dominic Solanke (£7.1m). After some doubts over hit fitness the Englishman started and played the majority of his sides most recent win over Burnley. In terms of form Solanke has managed four returns in his last six matches. During those matches he sits sixth best for non-penalty expected goal involvement and outside the top 10 players for other key attacking metrics.

Carlton Morris

Luton are the second and final team with a Double Gameweek ahead. The Hatters seem to be in a poor run of form recently – losing four, winning one and drawing one of their last six matches. One thing they are doing however is scoring goals, 13 in the same period in fact. They have also found the net in all of their last 10 league matches on the bounce.

The Double ahead sees Luton take on both Bournemouth and Crystal Palace. Both sides have been extremely fragile defensively lately – keeping just one clean sheet combined in 12 matches. They have also mustered up just two wins between them in the same period which paints a target on their backs.

Spearheading the Luton frontline is Carlton Morris (£5.1m). Morris seems be in the middle of a purple match – securing six returns in his last six matches. When taking a look at his data during that spell, Morris sits 10th for expected goals, joint fourth best for attacking returns and joint eighth for total shots in the box. The fact he recently played a Double Gameweeek may have inflated those figures however.

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 28?

Erling Haaland is a top captaincy pick in any given Gameweek. However, the fact he plays just one match combined with facing one of the best defences in the league this season away from home means looking elsewhere may be wise.

Carlton Morris is also a very good option. Like the other options Morris takes his sides penalties but also has a double Gameweek.

However, the best captain for Gameweek 28 is Dominic Solanke. Solanke faces two of the worst defences in the league, leads a Bournemouth attack whom have proved more than capable of scoring and is having his best ever season in the Premier League in terms of output.

If Solanke’ fitness becomes a major doubt or he is ruled out then Carlton Morris stands out as the best best captaincy option.
