Best budget midfielders for the run in

Setting up an FPL squad for the run in will need to include some budget friendly options. There are a number of good budget friendly options in the midfielder position. These are options who have good form, good fixtures, fixtures to be rearranged or a combination of all of them. We take a look at the best budget midfielders for the run in.

With managers needing to save budget to afford the performing premium FPL options we take a look at some budget midfielders:

  • Jacob Ramsey £4.8m
  • Ryan Fraser £5.3m
  • Gabriel Martinelli £5.3m
  • Anthony Gordon £4.5m

Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey has returned four double digit hauls this season. Aston Villa also have two fixtures against Burnley and Liverpool still to be arranged. Additional fixtures to add to the schedule broadens the appeal of Ramsey as he will have additional minutes over some of the other budget options to return points.

Since Gameweek 17 only Coutinho has more attacking returns for Villa than Ramsey. Ramsey also has the best expected assist (xA) tally across the Villa team in the same period.

Ryan Fraser

Since Eddie Howe’s appointment at Newcastle Fraser is back in the FPL limelight.  Fraser has returned a goal, an assist and 13 points in two of his last three home fixtures for Newcastle in the Premier League.

He is also joint top for both attacking returns and returns across the Newcastle team with three in the last six matches. In his last four home matches Fraser has had seven shots, six shots in the box and six key passes, all of which are team leading numbers. Fraser has three home matches in his next four Premier League fixtures

Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal have great fixtures on paper until the end of the season.

The Gunners also still have the North London derby against Spurs to be added in to their fixture schedule. Since Gameweek 14 Martinelli has had 32 shots, 27 of those from inside the box. These stats both rank third for Arsenal. At his price point he offers a cheap route into the Arsenal attack which can benefit from their end of season fixtures as well as enable better FPL squad depth.

Martinelli’s Gameweek 31 opponents are Crystal Palace. The midfielder returned an assist against them in just nine minutes of game time in the reverse of this fixture earlier on in the season.

Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon is the cheapest of the four budget options we have looked at. He will be a popular budget pick for Gameweek 31 as his Everton side are one of only two teams to play twice. Everton also have games against Crystal Palace and Watford to be rearranged. This improves Gordons appeal due to the number of potential minutes he will have to return FPL points.

Gordon has created 12 chances since the appointment of Frank Lampard, which is the most in the Everton team. He has also had seven shots on target which is more than double any of his Everton teammates.
