Best Budget Gems for EURO Fantasy Matchday 2

Our coverage of the summer tournament continues as we take a look through some of the best budget gems for EURO Fantasy Matchday 2. To do this we head over to the Fantasy Football Scout members area and check out their underlying stats.

Knowing who the best budget gems for EURO Fantasy Matchday 2 are could be super helpful for fantasy managers. Budget players are crucial when it comes down to building a team and selecting as many premium players as you would like. So, let’s dive in.

Maximilian Mittelstädt & Jonathan Tah

Germany stormed their opening match against Scotland in Matchday 1. Whilst it was both exciting and successful from an attacking point of view they also conceded a goal against a side with 10 men which may be slightly concerning moving forward.

However, Germany are the hosts and remain favourites going into the next match against Hungary. With that in mind we could still look to their backline for investment, especially considering how cheap their assets actually are.

Both Maximilian Mittelstädt (€4m) and Jonathan Tah (€4.5m) were close to picking up a clean sheet in the first round so there is promise. Both players also offer something a bit extra. Mittelstädt produced two key passes and two shots off target whilst Tah racked up a cool seven ball recoveries in the first round which led to an additional two points.

Georgia

UEFA have offered us a team full of bargains in the form of Georgia. This is mostly due to both their lack of experience in big tournaments and their unconvincing progression via the play-offs.

Georgia have proven offensively effective in recent matches – beating Montenegro 3-1, Luxembourg 2-0, drawing to Scotland 2-2 and beating Cyprus 4-0. In fact, prior to the tournament Georgia notched up a huge 21 goals in their last eight matches.

Czechia lay ahead next up, a side whom managed just two clean sheets in their last 10 matches. One way to target them could be via midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze (€4.5m). As well as being a starter for Georgia, he also impressed in his EURO Qualifiers, collecting four goal contributions in eight matches. Teammate and striker Georges Mikautadze (€5m) could also be a good option. Mikautadze spearheads the Georgian frontline and finished his recent domestic season with a solid 17 attacking returns.

Patrick Pentz

Ahead of the tournament Austria maintained a reasonably strong defence. As well as conceding just seven goals in their Qualifying matches Austria also managed four clean sheets in their last seven matches overall prior to the EURO’.

Poland are up next for Austria and things have been tough for them recently. Finishing third in their Qualifying Group Poland had to advance through the play-offs so their progression lacked conviction in a lot of areas.

The injury to first team goalkeeper Alexander Schlager is a significant one for Austria. But it also provides back-up goalkeeper Patrick Pentz (€4m) with a great opportunity to keep a clean sheet. Taking into account the fixture Pentz is hands down one of the best budget gems for EURO Fantasy Matchday 2.

Budget Defenders

There are several different budget defenders with good potential this week.

Belgium continue their route to the round of 16 with a fixture against Romania. Romania failed to score in two of their four friendlies prior to the EURO’ so centre-back Wout Faes (€4m) could be an easy route to a clean sheet.

England tend to maintain an elite defence in international competitions so we could rely on them, even in their toughest match against an inconsistent Denmark. Due to injuries it appears that centre-back Marc Guehi (€4.5m) has cemented his position in the defensive line.

Switzerland play with a back-three system which gives their wing-backs the freedom to advance forward. A questionable Matchday 1 performance from Scotland suggests that someone like Silvan Widmer (€4.5m) could have potential.
