Aston Villa Top Picks for FPL 2024/25

Last modified date

Fantasy Premier League has launched ahead of the new season and managers are hoping to fill their teams with the right players. We help narrow that search down as we take a look at the Aston Villa top picks for FPL 2024/25.

Picking out the Aston Villa top picks for FPL 2024/25 can be extremely helpful for fantasy managers. Aston Villa were one of the best teams in the Premier League last season which made them a go-to team in terms of investment.

Aston Villa shocked the football world last season. Unai Emery took his side and battled through a tough campaign of both League and European football to claim a fourth place finish. That finish meant Aston Villa secured Champions League for the 24/25 season.

Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture ticker based on the first six Gameweeks. We can also see that Aston Villa rank fifth. This means that according to the ticker they have the fifth best fixtures.

Aston Villa Defence

Aston Villa were a very difficult team to beat last season. However, that didn’t always translate into clean sheets. Last season they ranked (best):

  • 11th – Clean sheets (eight)
  • 8th – Goals conceded
  • 11th – Expected goals conceded
  • 6th – Shots in the box conceded
  • 4th – Total attempts conceded
  • 9th – Total shots on target conceded
  • 17th – Total big chances conceded

Comparing the Aston Villa Defensive Assets

Below we compare the Aston Villa defensive assets factoring in gametime and attacking potential.

Dominating at the top for gametime is Ezri Konsa (£4.5m) who played a huge 3063 minutes. Not far behind him is goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (£5m) who also played 3000 minutes.

Players who racked up close to 2500 minutes include centre-back Pau Torres (£4.5m) and left-back Lucas Digne (£4.5m).

When focusing on attacking threat we can see that Lucas Digne edges the pack with one goal and four assists. One goal contribution short of Digne is Matty Cash (£4.5m) with four.

The likes of Torres and Konsa also created two attacking returns last season.

Additional Notes

Aston Villa signed left-back Ian Maatsen during the summer. This could have a significant affect on both Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno’s minutes long-term.

Conclusion

Taking into account the lack of attacking threat amongst the defensive assets and gametime played last season Ezri Konsa stands out as their best and most reliable option at the back.

Pau Torres could also be a consideration at his price.

Aston Villa Attack

Aston Villa impressed offensively at times and we can see that in their 23/24 metrics as they ranked (best):

  • 6th – Goals scored (76)
  • 7th – Expected goals
  • 10th – Total attempts on goal
  • 7th – Total shots in the box
  • 8th – Big chances total
  • 9th – Total shots on target

Comparing the Aston Villa Attackers

When factoring in minutes striker Ollie Watkins (£9m) exceeds the 3000 minute mark and leads the pack.

Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby sit second and third for minutes but both have since departed the club.

This makes the likes of midfielder Leon Bailey (£6.5m) much more interesting after playing 2000+ minutes last campaign.

Interestingly midfielder Morgan Rogers (£5m) has started two matches for Aston Villa pre-season, so he could be worth monitoring.

Ollie Watkins remains at the top when it comes to attacking returns after managing a huge 37 last season.

What is interesting is that even though the likes of Diaby and Luiz, who have now left the club, played more minutes than Bailey the Jamaican produced more attacking returns.

Morgan Rogers who we mentioned had started two of pre-season matches for side also scored three goals in the process.

Conclusion

Ollie Watkins remains the standout option in the Aston Villa frontline. Not only is he there most reliable attacking pick but he is also their most consistent.

Leon Bailey could be an excellent midfield option at his price-point. Although shorter on gametime than other attacking teammates Bailey managed an impressive tally of returns.

One player who could be worth keeping an eye on is Morgan Rogers. As well as featuring and performing in pre-season he has also had plenty of praise from his manager.

After comparing all players for both minutes and attacking potential the Aston Villa Top Picks for FPL 2024/25 are:
