AFCON Fantasy Premium Players
In this article we take a look at the AFCON Fantasy premium players ahead of the tournaments start. Premium players are the most expensive in the game and tend to be the assets we choose to captain due to their form, team form and position in their national side.
Knowing who the AFCON Fantasy premium players are heading into the first round will be absolutely key. With knowledge of who the best premiums are we can look to plan our transfers, captaincy and chip strategies for the tournament ahead.
Mohamed Salah (€12m)
It may come as no surprise that Mohamed Salah is the most expensive player in the game. The Liverpool midfielder plays for one of the tournament favourites and faces Cape Verde, Ghana and Mozambique in the Group Stage.
For club Salah has been excellent – scoring 14 goals and creating eight assists in just 20 matches. He also impressed during AFCON qualification where he managed two goals and two assists in just four starts. In current form and taking set pieces and penalties for Egypt Salah is of course one of the best premiums to consider.
Sadio Mane (€11.5m)
The joint second most priciest asset in the game is this man. Sadio Mane plays for the recently crowned African Champions Senegal. Senegal go into the new tournament looking to hold onto their trophy and they are favourites to do exactly that. They face Gambia, Cameroon and Guinea in their Group Stage games.
Mane previously played his football in the Premier League for Liverpool then Bayern but now plays in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr. In the 18 matches Sane has played for his new side he’s already racked up eight goals and four assists.
For Senegal Sadio Mane is the main man. He takes his sides penalties, regularly puts in a talismanic performances and demands the majority of the attacks be played through him. In the AFCON qualifiers Mane produced five goals and one assist in just five matches which reflects everything we have mentioned above.
Victor Osimhen (€11.5m)
Joining Sadio Mane in the €11.5m price bracket is Victor Osimhen. Nigeria are not one of the tournament favourites but they are expected to do very well and at the minimum get out of their Group. They come up against Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau so the potential is there.
Domestically is where Victor Osimhen burst onto the scene. The Napoli striker netted a huge 26 goals and registered four assists in 32 Serie A games last campaign. Osimhen was also rampant in his AFCON qualifiers where he notched up a mammoth 10 goals and two assists in just six matches. He is also on penalty duty which boosts his appeal even more.
Riyad Mahrez (€11m)
Algeria are another side amongst the favourites this time around. They go into the new tournament with fixtures against the likes of Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania so should breeze through the Group Stage.
Another player taking up a talismanic role for his side is Riyad Mahrez. Similar to Mane Mahrez also previously played in the Premier League but for current champions Manchester City and moved to Saudi Arabia. There Mahrez plays his football for Al-Ahil where he has played 19 matches, scored eight goals and created seven assists.
In terms of his international form Mahrez managed one goal and two assists in just four qualifying games. Similar to our other picks the Algerian also takes his nations penalties which is a huge bonus.
Vincent Aboubakar (€10m)
Similar to Nigeria Cameroon are another side who are expected to do well. The five times AFCON Champions go into the competition with experience. They also have meetings with Guinea, Senegal and Gambia and one man in particular has huge potential.
Vincent Aboubakar leads the Cameroon frontline and takes his sides penalties. Like his side Aboubakar is well seasoned in this competition. The 31 year old visibly remains in his prime scoring two goals in three of his AFCON qualifying matches. Aboubakar also impressed during the World Cup – scoring two goals and creating one assist.
