Chip Strategy

Before diving into my team, I want to outline my chip strategy for this season. I’ve decided to use my wildcard ahead of Matchday 2 for two main reasons.

First, Matchday 1 features some very difficult fixtures: Bayern away at Barcelona, Arsenal at home to Lyon, and Wolfsburg hosting PSG. Playing the wildcard afterwards lets me avoid these tricky openers, then load up on players from those teams once their fixtures improve. It also gives me an extra week of information before committing.

Second, it means I can treat Matchday 1 almost like a Free Hit. I’ll target teams such as Paris FC and Atletico Madrid, who have favourable opening fixtures but tougher runs to follow. It’s a risky strategy – but hopefully one that brings big rewards.

For those not wildcarding ahead of Matchday 2, I’ll cover alternative player targets later in this article.

The rules on the official site are a little confusing. One section states there will be unlimited transfers before the quarter-finals, while another suggests we’ll only get five. My approach is based on the assumption that we will indeed receive unlimited transfers at that stage.

Goalkeepers

  • Danielle de Jong (4.0m) – My starter for Tuesday. The 22-year-old Dutch goalkeeper kept a clean sheet on her debut last weekend and looks like a reliable starting option at just 4.0m. Juventus also play in the early kick-off, so we’ll know before deadline whether she starts.
  • Lola Gallardo (5.0m) – My Wednesday option with a strong-looking fixture away at St. Pölten. Gallardo kept 15 clean sheets in 28 matches last season, so there’s a good chance Atletico can keep the Austrian side quiet.

Defenders

  • Lou Bogaert (4.5m) – The first of my Paris FC triple-up. The left-back has started all six games this season, delivering five clean sheets and a goal.
  • Maya Le Tissier (5.5m) and Fridolina Rolfö (5.0m) – A Manchester United double-up. United’s defence has been rock solid, conceding just three goals in nine games. Their home clash with Vålerenga is a great way to start their debut UWCL campaign. Both offer attacking potential too: Le Tissier is United’s main penalty taker, while Rolfö has been deployed as a left-winger so far this season.
  • Nathalie Björn (5.0m) – My Chelsea pick in defence. She’s started all five WSL games this season and was a ball-recovery machine at the Euros, averaging eight per match. With Sonia Bompastor’s unpredictable rotation, I’m limiting myself to just one Chelsea asset.
  • Bella Anderson (4.5m) – Comes in with a favourable fixture against Roma. She replaces Maëlle Lakrar, who may miss out through injury.

Midfielders

  • Aitana Bonmatí (10.5m) and Alexia Putellas (10.0m) – Both are must-haves, regardless of the Bayern fixture. Barcelona are heavy favourites, so tripling up on their assets is a no-brainer.
  • Clara Matéo (7.0m) – Currently wearing the armband. Owned by just 2%, Paris FC’s star player has produced 18+ goal contributions in each of the last four seasons. Capable of playing across the front line, she scored twice in qualifying and looks like an exciting differential.
  • Fiamma (6.0m) – In excellent form for Atletico, averaging 0.63 xGI/90 and scoring four goals already this season.
  • Linda Caicedo (7.0m) – At just 20 years old, she continues to establish herself as one of the brightest young stars in world football and has another chance to shine here.

Forwards

  • Ewa Pajor (10.5m) – Completes my Barcelona triple-up. Averaging over 1.5 goal contributions per 90 since joining the club, she’s an automatic pick. If I lose confidence in my Matéo captaincy punt, Pajor will take the armband.
  • Lorena Azzaro (6.5m) – Another Paris FC pick and a huge differential at 0% ownership. On penalties and averaging 0.6 non-penalty xGI/90 this season, she looks like a strong option with Paris FC expected to score at least twice.
  • Elisabeth Terland (9.0m) – Rounds off my XI. She netted seven times in United’s qualifying campaign, though I’m not fully confident in her minutes. A last-minute switch to Aggie Beever-Jones (8.0m), Synne Jensen (7.5m), or Melchie Dumornay (6.0m) is possible.

If You’re Not Wildcarding

For managers holding the wildcard, I’d aim to structure teams around:

  • Three Barcelona players
  • Two Chelsea players
  • Two Manchester United players
  • One or more from Lyon
  • One or more from Arsenal
  • Potential additions from Real Madrid or Wolfsburg
  • A few short-term punts for Matchday 1

Twente’s fixtures from Matchday 2–4 also look appealing.

One final note: Judit Pujols is the most-owned 4.0m defender in the game despite only playing 50 minutes this season. By contrast, Wedemeyer has started all five games for Wolfsburg, is the same price, and is owned by 0%! Moves like this can provide powerful differentials – don’t just follow ownership.
