Goalkeepers
The lack of good cheap options between the sticks and the need to invest into the strong Arsenal defence combine to make David Raya and excellent long-term option.
The only player £4m goalkeeper in the game if of course Martin Dubravka of Burnley. He remains a solid back-up off the bench if needed.
Defenders
No defender has produced more defensive contributions than Bournemouth’ Marcos Senesi. He has also managed defcon points in all of his games so far.
Owning a premium defender could allow managers flexibility long-term. One of the standouts is Arsenal’ Gabriel who has attacking threat from set-plays. Doubling up on the Arsenal defence has huge appeal with good fixtures ahead.
Tottenham sit top of the fixture ticker, so investing in them makes sense. With a goal already Mickey van de Ven could be a great option long-term.
Crystal Palace defenders have impressed early on this season, and their cheapest and most reliable option is centre-back Chris Richards.
Of the promoted teams Sunderland have arguably impressed the most. In the backline is Nordi Mukiele who comes in at just £4m.
Midfielders
One of the best performing assets in the game this season is Antoine Semenyo. Bournemouth have a good enough schedule ahead for him to continue that form.
Another midfielder who could prove himself as a great long-term hold is Bruno Fernandes. The Manchester United man takes penalties, is averaging 11 defcons per game and is usually one of the most creative players in the league.
Everton’ start to the season has caught they eye. The Toffees seems to be rejuvenated with attacking signings, which makes penalty taker and defcon specialist Iliman Ndiaye even more attractive as an option.
Tottenham’ fantastic fixtures ahead makes it difficult to go without an attacker. Their safest and most promising option for minutes and attacking threat respectively is Mohammed Kudus, who has managed four assists in five matches.
Another excellent option at his price point is Tijani Reijnders. The Dutchman has started every one of his sides matches so far and has managed three attacking returns.
Forwards
In relentless form and creating 10 big chances in just six matches, Erling Haaland is becoming more of an essential as the weeks go on. The Norwegian isn’t just consistent, but his form makes him a great captaincy option long-term.
Joao Pedro has been one of the most consistent forwards in the game. The other mid-priced options just have not delivered, so sticking with the Chelsea frontman makes sense. Covering that price point also gives FPL managers flexibility.
Arsenal’ great fixtures also make them an ideal team to stock up on. Leading their attack and scoring three goals in his first five games is Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres seems to perform better against weaker sides and he has plenty of those opportunities ahead of him.
