MLS Fantasy Round 22 Team Reveals

Notes

  • On paper, there are a few decent clean sheet opportunities this week. One of those is New England at home to Montreal. This is why I’ve stacked Aljaž Ivačič and Ilay Feingold on my bench. Charlotte have similar clean sheet potential to New England, with Kristijan Kahlina my fallback ‘keeper and Adilson Malanda making my starting XI by virtue of his bonus point generation.
  • Luca Orellano and Kai Wagner also make my squad thanks to their offensive potential. Orellano, in particular, looks to have rediscovered his late 2024 form at LWB, with two goals and three assists in his last six games. However, I’m not convinced Cincinnati keep a clean sheet against Miami, which is why he only makes the bench.
  • Tristan Blackmon is a late-game fallback should my bench defenders bust.
  • In midfield, I’ve gone with Pep Biel, Evander, Carles Gil and Philip Zinckernagel, all of whom are likely to be ‘chalk’ this week.
  • Diego Luna is my final midfield pick as things stand. This is more of a gut pick, based also on a lack of trust in San Jose. However, Luna’s points ‘floor’ is solid and one attacking return could easily propel him into double digits this week.
  • Upfront, Lionel Messi will be my captain providing he avoids a ban for dropping out of Wednesday’s All-Star Game, with Denis Bouanga ready to step in should Messi be ruled out.
  • My final forward pick is between Brian White and Petar Musa, with the USMNT striker currently getting the nod by virtue of Vancouver’s more favourable matchup.
  • SKC have the second-worst away defence in the league – My lineup remains subject to change depending on how the All-Star Game plays out.

Notes

  • There is no DGW this week and we are coming off All-Stars which Messi did not feature in.
  • Matches split over Friday and Saturday means a lot of line-up watching is needed.
  • I have got a double up on Charlotte at home this weekend. Like Seattle on the road against Atlanta so doubling there.
  • NER has another good matchup so easy to put on the bench early.
  • Bench will determine Saturday scrubs or not. So, I’m filling up with Vancouver assets.

Notes

  • Clean sheets feel rough this week with injuries and absences, but I think Charlotte and Vancouver have the two best chances, which is why I have them as my keeperoo, JMR on my bench and Ocampo as my fallback defender.
  • Wagner has a decent CS shout, but he’s there for his attacking returns.
  • Tafari is an easy bench punt.
  • Bouanga, Gil, Biel, White and Dreyer all have solid home matchups that I want to target.
  • That Miami – Cincy game feels like a goal fest, so I not only want my usual captain armband on Messi, but Evander could pop off as well.
  • Rusnak also has a nice away fixture that could be part of a massive goal fest.
