Goalkeepers

Iceland have failed to score a single goal in the campaign thus far, so Norway’ Cecile Fiskerstrand could have clean sheet potential this week.

If Fiskerstrand fails to keep a clean sheet then fellow Nordic side Denmark could hold defensive potential. Poland are another side who have failed to impress from an attacking perspective, so Maja Bay Ostergaard could be another great pick.

Defenders

Iceland have been that poor so far, that doubling up on the Norway defence could be extremely rewarding. The best of the bunch is arguably centre-back Tuva Hansen who has produced 15 ball recoveries so far.

Switzerland play with a back three which gives Nadine Riesen space to advance forward. From wing-back, the Frankfurt star has already banked a goal and a clean sheet during her first two matches.

Spain are arguably one of if not the best side in the tournament, so backing them both defensively and offensively will be crucial. Their standout pick at the back is Ona Batlle who hit 12 goal contributions for Barcelona last season domestically.

England face Wales this week, the lowest ranked side in the competition. Because of this, having cover from the England backline will be essential. Lucy Bronze’ attacking threat makes her the obvious pick.

Netherlands are a good side, but when facing tougher opposition, they fail to convince. After being rested in Matchday 2 penalty taker and the out-of-position Sakina Karchaoui should return to the starting line-up.

Midfielders

Spain have racked up a massive 11 goals already, and based on how ropey Italy have been thus far, they could extent that scoring form. The Spanish double up of the relentless Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati could be wise. Leaving Putellas out could be hugely damaging due to her quality and ownership, and Bonmati should be certain to play as she regains match fitness ready for the latter stages.

Back-to-back player of the match awards and a goal in her first two matches highlights Geraldine Reuteler as a good pick. The Switzerland star faces a poor Finland side, so has the perfect fixture to continue her form.

The lack of viable midfield options is a concern this week. Because of this, going on what we know could be wise. Taking that into account Germany’ Klara Buhl and Sweden’ Filippa Angeldahl make the cut. Although facing each other, both have been excellent for country so far.

Forwards

England’ dismantling of Netherlands in the previous round is a good reminder of how attacking England can be. With limited viable midfield options, backing a double up of Lauren James and Alessia Russo may be an aggressive approach, but one we will need to attack the final Group Stage round.

Completing the attack is Denmark’ exceptional Penile Harder. The 32-year-old has been one of the best strikers in the world over previous years, and leads the Denmark frontline against a poor Poland defence.
