MLS Fantasy Round 16 Team Reveals

Notes

  • Given the limited options this week, I advise against playing a 5-3-2 ‘autoroo’ with two defensive scrubs and instead go with a formation that maximises ‘switcheroo’ opportunities.
  • With so few fixtures, I expect Hugo Lloris, an LAFC defender (in my case, Aaron Long), David Da Costa, Đorđe Mihailović, Albert Rusnák, Philip Zinckernagel, Denis Bouanga and Hugo Cuypers to be selected by the majority of active managers this week – and my team is no different.
  • Bouanga is the clear choice for captaincy, although beware possible rotation for LAFC ahead of the Club World Cup.
  • Outside of Lloris, there doesn’t look to be another standout ‘keeper this week. Austin are statistically the worst away attack in the league, so Colorado backup ‘keeper Nicholas Hansen could be a good option – providing he is added to the MLS Fantasy game by Saturday (Adam Beaudry is a placeholder for now)!
  • I’ve taken a similar approach in defence, pairing the Colorado GK with Andreas Maxsø. Andrew Gutman, Juan Mosquera and Jackson Ragen complete my defence. Gutman has offensive potential, while Ragen and Seattle stand a decent chance of upsetting Vancouver, who haven’t trained due to food poisoning suffered around the time of the CCC Final.
  • Meanwhile, Portland face a St Louis side that have struggled at both ends of the pitch away from home (fifth-worst xGF and sixth-worst xGA). This is also why I have Felipe Mora as my third forward.
  • My final midfield pick is Gabriel Pirani. I’m expecting both DC United and Chicago to score, with underlying numbers and recent form in Pirani’s favour over the likes of João Peglow.

MLS Fantasy Round 16 Team Reveals

Notes

  • Where to start here with a number of BYE weeks plus an international break.
  • Budget won’t be a problem but line-ups will be unless you pick up the international call up list MLS posted on Mon June 2.
  • 10 teams are in action with five matches, two Saturday and three Sunday.
  • So, I’m going 5-3-2 with two auto scrubs.
  • Your Chicago Fire and or DC can start on the bench and upgrade the scrubs if needed.
  • Bouanga is my captain.

Notes

  • In goal, I’m currently looking at Stuver on the front end of my keeperoo. Hugo Lloris will be my fallback should the Austin #1 fail to keep a clean sheet away to Colorado.
  • In defence, I don’t expect many clean sheets this round so I’ve loaded up on defenders with potential for attacking returns.
  • In midfield, Albert Rusnak was an easy lock for me this week due to his potential for attacking returns and bonus production. I’m also liking the look of Lowen, Mihailovic (if he starts), Da Costa and Zinckernagel this week.
  • Up front, Denis Bouanga and Hugo Cuypers were both easy inclusions for me this round as they’re very likely to be two ’chalk’ picks and they’ve also produced consistently in recent weeks.
  • My final forward is currently Felipe Mora, but I also like the look of Rafael Navarro this round.
