Team Overview

Al Ahly qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup by winning the CAF Champions League for the 2022–23 season. They defeated Wydad Casablanca in the final, securing their spot as Africa’s representative at the expanded 32-team tournament in the United States.
Al Ahly had an outstanding 2023–24 Egyptian Premier League season, clinching their 44th league title with a dominant performance across all metrics. They played 34 matches, winning 27, drawing four and losing just three. They also netted 75 goals, conceded just 28 and kept 13 clean sheets.
Current form is good going into the competitions – they head into the Club World Cup with consecutive wins in their previous six games. During that time they racked up 21 goals (an average of 3.5 per game), and kept three clean sheets.
Group and Fixtures
The likes of Palmeiras (BRA), Porto (POR), and Inter Miami CF (USA) join Al Ahly in Group A.
Al Ahly are one of the lowest ranked sides heading into the competition. They may also face hardship in the Group – being underdogs in every one of their upcoming fixtures.

Al Ahly may be underdogs going into the competition, but they could offer value and differential picks. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how they could line-up.

Predicted line-up

Top Picks

There does appear to be a lack of attacking threat among the Al Ahly defenders. If pushed then right-back Mohamed Hany (€4.3m) could be the best of the bunch. Although overall short of offensive output historically – Hany has produced a goal and an assist in his previous five matches.
Lack of offensive potential at the back does make goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy (€4.1m) a standout. The Egyptian has been crucial in keeping the bulk of his sides clean sheets, even at 36-years-old, so could be option for CWC Fantasy managers.

In attack, budget midfielder Emam Ashour (€4.7m) should be a consideration. Ashour takes his sides set pieces and a share of penalties – offering immediate appeal for potential investors. He’s also in fantastic attacking form – amassing an impressive four goals and three assists in just his previous six outings alone.
Coming in at even cheaper and leading the Al Ahly frontline is Wessam Abou Ali (€4.2m), who has been absolutely key for the Egyptian side. Abou Ali is enjoying a scintillating run heading into the competition – bagging 10 goals and three assists in just 16 league games. Just in his previous match against Pharco the striker produced a huge four goals and one assist.
