UEFA Women’s EURO 2025: Tournament Overview
- Dates: July 2–27, 2025
- Host Nation: Switzerland (hosting for the first time)
- Number of Teams: 16
- Format: Four groups of four teams each; top two from each group advance to the knockout stages (quarter-finals, semi-finals, final)
- Opening Match & Final Venue: St. Jakob-Park, Basel (Switzerland’s largest stadium)
Host Cities and Stadiums
Matches will be played across eight Swiss cities, divided into two regional clusters:
- Western Cluster: Bern (Stadion Wankdorf), Geneva (Stade de Genève), Sion (Stade de Tourbillon), Thun (Arena Thun)
- Eastern Cluster: Basel (St. Jakob-Park), Zürich (Stadion Letzigrund), Lucerne (Allmend Stadion Luzern), St. Gallen (Arena St.Gallen)
Group Stage Draw
The final draw took place on December 16, 2024, in Lausanne. The groups are as follows:
- Group A: Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Finland
- Group B: Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy
- Group C: Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Poland
- Group D: England, France, Netherlands, Wales
Group D is particularly notable, featuring defending champions England, two-time winners France, the Netherlands, and debutants Wales.

Prize Money and Innovations
- Total Prize Pool: €41 million (a 156% increase from the previous tournament)
- Player Compensation: National federations are required to allocate 30–40% of their prize money directly to players
- Technological Advancements: Introduction of the KONEKTIS match ball equipped with Connected Ball Technology to enhance VAR accuracy
Mascot and Branding
- Mascot: “Maddli,” a Saint Bernard puppy named in honor of Swiss football pioneer Madeleine Boll
- Ticketing: Approximately 720,000 tickets available, with prices starting at CHF 25. Over 300,000 tickets had been sold by December 2024, with high demand from Germany, England, Wales, France, and Norway
England’s Title Defence
England enters the tournament as the reigning champions, having won the previous edition in 2022.
They are placed in a challenging Group D alongside France, the Netherlands, and Wales.
Key players such as Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, and Lauren Hemp have returned from injuries, bolstering the squad ahead of the competition.

In the United Kingdom, matches will be broadcast on BBC and ITV, ensuring comprehensive coverage for fans.
