Notes
- Starting in goal this week is Colchester United’s Matt Macey. He’s at home, where he’s kept three clean sheets in his last four. He faces Barrow, who have nothing to play for, while Colchester still have a slim playoff chance.
- Next up is the first same-club pairing, starting with defender Ellis Iandolo. He also has three clean sheets at home in his last four. He’s scored 44 points in his last five games — just under nine points per match.
- Captain this week is Connor Hall of Port Vale. He plays Gillingham, who are on the beach, while Vale will win the league if they beat Doncaster on points. Hall has 39 points from his last five, so he gets the armband.
- My final defender is Nathan Smith, also from Port Vale, completing the defensive double-up. He has 35 points in the last five and will be pushing for a clean sheet and a strong finish.
- In midfield, Lewis Wing of Reading makes the cut. If Reading outscore Leyton Orient, they grab the last playoff spot. They face a leaky Barnsley defence who are basically on the beach. Wing has 50 points in his last five appearances.
- Josh Brownhill of Burnley is next. His side must beat Leeds on points to win the league. Millwall still have something to play for, but Brownhill has 46 points in his last five — strong form heading into the final game.
- Up top is Joel Piroe of Leeds United. If Leeds match or beat Burnley’s result, they win the league. They play Plymouth, who would need a miracle to stay up. Piroe just hit a hat trick, so he could deliver again.
- Chesterfield are my first team pick. They’re away at Accrington, who have just secured survival and have little to play for. Chesterfield need a win and help elsewhere to make the playoffs — motivation should be high.
- Leeds United are the other team. They face Plymouth away and need a win to secure the title. It should be a straight forward win this week for Leeds.
