FPL Challenge Gameweek 29 Tips and Team Reveal

In this article, we present to you our FPL Challenge Gameweek 29 tips and team reveal. As well as picking out some of the best players for the round ahead specific to the Challenge structure we also bring in @FPLReaction to share his team and thoughts ahead of the new round.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 29 is here. With exciting new badges to earn and prizes to win FPL Challenge have made some massive changes. With that in mind our tips and team reveal could be exactly what you need to have success.

What is the Challenge this week?

The Challenge for Gameweek 29 is ‘7-A-Side’.

Challengers have an unlimited budget to pick seven players.

You can also own up to five assets from each club.

Blank Gameweek 29 Reminder

Remember, its a Blank Gameweek in the round ahead. This means that Liverpool, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace do not have a fixture.

Goalkeepers

FPL Challenge Gameweek 29

Of the teams playing this week, there doesn’t seem to be a standout fixture for clean sheet potential, but Nottingham Forest come close. With the joint most amount of clean sheets this season, Nottingham Forest have proven to be one of the best defences in the league. Because of this, backing Matz Sels (£5m) could be a great pick.

Although inconsistent defensively, Wolves have a lovely fixture against Southampton this week. The Saints are the worst attack in the league for goals and big chances total, so Challengers could even look to Jose Sa (£4.3m) to keep a clean sheet.

There are other goalkeepers to consider, including: Everton’ Jordan Pickford (£5.1m) v West Ham and Manchester United’ Andre Onana (£5m) for his clash with a poor Leicester side.

Defenders

FPL Challenge Gameweek 29

There doesn’t seem to be many clear cut opportunities to keep a clean sheet this week. Because of this, it could be wise to focus on attacking potential. One player who has that in heaps is Manchester City left-back Josko Gvardiol (£5.9m). The Croatian has thus far edged every other defender in the game for expected goals.

Nottingham Forest’ appeal does come from the fact they are one of the best defences in the league. But, we also have to consider that they come up against Ipswich, one of the worst attacks in the league statistically. Their standout defender when taking into account attacking threat is centre-back Nikola Milenković (£4.8m).

Challengers should also consider Wolves. Wolves have managed two clean sheets in their previous five games, proving they are defensively capable against weaker sides. Their standout defender pick when taking into account attacking threat is Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.8m). The Algerian has racked up the second most goal contributions among defenders this season.

There are several other defender options to consider, including: Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez (£5.1m) against Brentford, Arsenal centre-back Gabriel (£6.3m), Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson (£5m) v Spurs, and Manchester United’ Diogo Dalot (£5m).

Midfielders

Brentford, although offensively strong, regularly leak goals. Considering Bournemouth recently dismantled both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest by big score lines, buying into their attack could be a crucial. Their most effective attacker is Justin Kluivert (£6.1m), who also takes his sides penalties.

Whilst Bournemouth are very efficient from an attacking perspective, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous five matches. This could suggest penalty taker Bryan Mbeumo (£8.1m) may have potential.

Leicester lie ahead next for Manchester United, who rank among the worst three teams for multiple underlying defensive metrics. So, leaving out penalty taker Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) could be a mistake, especially after securing 9-10 points in each of his last three outings.

There is a huge pool of great midfield options this week, including the likes of West Ham’ Jarrod Bowen (£7.5m) versus Everton, Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.5m) for his clash with Ipswich, and Tottenham’ Son Heung-Min (9.7m) against Fulham.

Forwards

FPL Challenge Gameweek 29

Ranking second worst overall for total big conceded makes Ipswich a major target going into any given game, espcially when they come up against the likes of Chris Wood (£7.3m). The Nottingham Forest striker has managed 18 goals and three assists already this season.

Also in good form is Manchester City penalty taker Erling Haaland (£14.7m). With at least one return in five of his last six league games, the Norwegian seems to be in the middle of a purple patch. He takes that form into a clash with Brighton.

Francisco Evanilson (£5.6m) could be a another great option. Playing Brentford in the round ahead could be a good opening to return in two matches on the bounce. Evanilson made his first start since recovering from injury in Gameweek 28 against Spurs and scored.

Other strikers that Challengers could look to is Everton’ Norberto Beto (£5.1m) v West Ham, Wolves man Strand Larsen (£5.2m) for his outing versus Southampton, and Fulham’ Raul Jimenez (£5.5m).

@FPLReaction Team Reveal

  • This is my current set-up. I have gone for Sels because I’m not massively keen on Nottingham Forest’ defender picks for attacking threat.
  • Josko Gvardiol and Rayan Ait-Nouri are super attacking, so they take up their place in my starting seven.
  • I wish I could fit more midfielders in. I think Bruno Fernandes and Morgan Gibbs-White have great fixtures. But, I also like Justin Kluivert and Bryan Mbeumo, but they face each other.
  • Up front I’m going for Erling Haaland and Chris Wood. I’m currently between them both for captaincy, but on Wood for now.
  • I may change up midfield, maybe Gibbs-White for another midfielder, but for now I’m happy with it.

Gameweek 28 Challenge Review

FPL Challenge Gameweek 29
  • Last week I went for Slot who did well, along with the Liverpool attackers, including my captain Salah. The defence though was a different story entirely.
  • The opposite could be said for Chelsea though, with Cucurella doing well again for me and Palmer and Nkunku flopping against Leicester.
  • Mbeumo and Isak were also among the blanks.
  • Overall I hit 125 points, which meant a round rank of 25.1k, which meant a slight rise to 408th globally for the season.
  • Good luck this week!
