UCL Fantasy Matchday 7 Best Captains

Last modified date

The Champions League continues! Today we pick out the UCL Fantasy Matchday 7 best captains. As well as picking out the standout captaincy option on each day of Matchday 7, we also select one or more differential options for those looking to gain rank early on.

UCL Fantasy managers have the ability the select a captain on each day of a Matchday. If you aren’t happy with your captain return on the first day then you can change your captain to another player on the second day.

Winning every single one of their Champions League matches thus far instantly makes Liverpool one of the most reliable teams to look to this week. Arne Slot and his men have sustained excellent form across both the Premier league and Champions League this season.

This week Liverpool host Lille. The French side have impressed with recent European results, but it doesn’t take away the fact they rank among the worst 10 sides for expected goals conceded this season. For that reason, and Liverpool’ form, captaining a Liverpool attacker could be hugely rewarding, maybe even damaging if you decide against it.

Among the Liverpool attackers, and by far the standout is Mohamed Salah (€10.1m). As well as racking up over 30 goal contributions domestically, Liverpool’ Egyptian penalty taker has also produced two goals and four assists in his first six European matches.

For those looking to avoid Salah, another team who play at home this week is Atalanta. The Italian side have impressed in both Serie A and the Champions League. Helping his attack, one that has maintained an average of around two goals scored per game in both competitions this season, is Ademola Lookman (€6.7m). Lookman has been brilliant this season and goes into the game having scored in both of his previous European games. He also plays in early kick-off at home against Sturm Graz, so UCL Fantasy managers can check the line-ups and make sure he’s starting.

Robert Lewandowski (€9.6m) should also be a serious consideration for those looking at an alternative captaincy pick. Barcelona have scored more goals than any other side in the tournament so far, and contributing heavily towards that was penalty Lewandowski. The Catalans travel to Portugal for their clash against Benfica, who could struggle to contain the Spaniards.

Other good options include Leverkusen wing-back Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.7m) for his fixture against Atleti, and Enzo Millot (€6.2m) as he travels to meet a poor Slovan Bratislava defence.

The Best Captain on Wednesday 22nd January

Similar to Liverpool on the Tuesday, there is also a very obvious side who could hold huge potential for captaincy on the Wednesday. After a ropey start to the campaign, Real Madrid now sit five points clear of fierce rivals Barcelona in La Liga.

Los Blancos haven’t just won five of their previous six matches in all competitions, they also managed to score at least two goals in every single one of their last 10 matches in all competitions. What is even more enticing for UCL Fantasy managers this week, is that Carlo Ancelotti’s men face a woeful Salzburg defence up next, a defence which has conceded a huge 18 goals in Europe already.

There are several Real Madrid attackers you could give the captaincy armband to this week, one of them is Kylian Mbappe (€10.9m). After an unconvincing start to life at Real Madrid, improvements have been made as of late – with the Frenchman racking up eight goal contributions in his previous 10 matches.

Meanwhile, it could be foolish to rule out fellow forward and teammate Vinicius Junior (€11.2m). The Brazilian has proven himself time and time again in the Champions League, and has already produced five goals in just five games this season.

Differential Captain Picks for Wednesday

Harry Kane (€10.7m) could offer himself up as a fantastic differential option, for those not looking to back a Real Madrid player. Bayern are quickly placing themselves as one of the highest scoring teams in Europe again, after netting at least five goals in three of their previous five matches. The Bavarians clash with Dutch giants Feyenoord this week, who although play at home, shipped 2-3 goals in each of their last three Champions League games.

For those that still aren’t convinced, then AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez (€5.5m) for his home matches against Girona, and Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard (€8.9m) for his home meeting with GNK Dinamo, could also have potential this week.
