Fantasy EFL Top Picks for Gameweek 23

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the Fantasy EFL top picks for Gameweek 23. We bring in our expert and regular Fantasy EFL contributor @FPLEdgeworth to reveal his fixture tickers and top picks in each league.

Our Fantasy EFL Fantasy top picks for Gameweek 23 can be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers. Knowing who the best players to own in each position and the best teams to select are, could be hugely beneficial for the round ahead.

Goalkeepers – Tommy Simkin – Walsall

Fantasy EFL Top Picks for Gameweek 23

Opening up this week’s top picks is Simkin, who plays for League Two leaders Walsall. In his last five matches Simkin has managed an impressive four clean sheets, which ties them with the most clean sheets in League Two. This week they meet with Tranmere, who have netted the least amount of goals scored in the league, so a clean sheet is very likely.

Jamie Cumming – Oxford United

Next up is Cumming, who plays for Oxford. Although they have struggled so far this season, they are also unbeaten in the last four. During those matches they banked two clean sheets, one of which was against Plymouth, who they play this week in the reverse fixture. In addition, Plymouth are tied for the least amount of goals scored in the Championship, so Cumming has solid potential.

Defenders – Mickey Demetriou – Crewe Alexandra

Fantasy EFL Top Picks for Gameweek 23

A defender who features regularly, due to the fact he’s the highest scoring player in the game, is Demetriou. In six of his previous seven games, the Crewe centre-back has produced seven or more points. As well as that, in the reverse fixture against Swindon, he bagged nine points. Swindon also sit one place above the relegation zone.

Ryan Johnson – AFC Wimbledon

After being highly picked last week, Johnson makes his first appearance as a top pick, and for good reason. Johnson has been performing well recently – hitting seven or more points four times during his last five matches. Two of those occasions saw him reach double-digit returns. This week, Wimbledon play Cheltenham at home, which could be a great opportunity for him to continue his form.

Midfielders – Davis Keillor-Dunn – Barnsley

Fantasy EFL Top Picks for Gameweek 23

My first midfielder pick this week is Barnsley’ Keillor-Dunn. Form seems to be with Keillor-Dunn at this time – having collected eight or more points in his last four consecutive games. Barnsley clash with Northampton in the round ahead, who currently reside towards the bottom of League One.

Jack Lankester – Crewe Alexandra

Crewe feature heavily this week, as evident by my next pick. This time my focus is on Lankester, who has mustered at least one goal contribution in seven of his last eight matches. Although, the one risk with him is that he hasn’t started every game. So, you need to check the line-ups if you aim to pick him. If he does start against Swindon, who have conceded the most goals in League Two, he should be a great pick.

Forwards – Nathan Lowe – Walsall

League Two’s top scorer is up next in Lowe. He is the second Walsall asset to feature this week, but for good reason. Scoring a huge 14 goals and registering five assists in 21 games this season, Lowe has been one of the best strikers across all three leagues.

David McGoldrick – Notts County

Veteran forward McGoldrick is the last player to feature this week. For Notts County, he has produced contributions in three of his last four starts. The only game he didn’t bag a return came against top of the league Walsall. Grimsby lay ahead, who rank second for most goals conceded in League Two, so McGoldrick has huge potential this week.

Teams to Target

  • Barnsley – Barnsley play Northampton this week, who, before last week, had not won in five games. In contrast, Barnsley have won their last four matches on the bounce, including two away games against Bolton and Peterborough. Northampton is arguably a much easier fixture for them this week, and they play away from home, which means extra points if successful.
  • Huddersfield Town – Huddersfield, after being picked by many last week due to the double gameweek, return this week as they play Shrewsbury. The latter have won just once in eight games, whereas Huddersfield have won their last four away fixtures. Huddersfield play away from home once more, which again, could mean additional points if they do well.
