Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 17 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the new round.
Note: Ownership statistics will inevitably change throughout the week
1. Mohamed Salah – 62.5% Ownership
Just maintaining his lead as the highest owned player in the game ahead of Gameweek 17 is Mohamed Salah (£13.4m). Although appearing to some as a tough fixture on paper for Liverpool, Spurs rank amongst the worst sides in the league for goals conceded in the last four games. This week could see an 11th double-digit haul of the season for the Egyptian.
2. Cole Palmer – 62.3% Ownership
In touching distance of Mohamed Salah in first place is Cole Palmer (£11.1m). At the time of writing, the Englishman is just 0.2% off Salah in terms of ownership. His increasing popularity is mostly due to his excellent form recently. In fact, Palmer heads into his clash with Everton having managed a whopping 39 FPL points between Gameweek 13-15.
3. Bukayo Saka – 44% Ownership
For the first time this season, Bukayo Saka (£10.6m) overtakes Erling Haaland for popularity. The Arsenal penalty taker will be hoping for a better performance against a ropey Crystal Palace defence this week, especially after blanking in both Gameweek 14 and Gameweek 15.
4. Erling Haaland – 40.3% Ownership
Losing another 4% ownership on last week, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland (£14.9m) seems to be losing the faith of FPL managers at a dramatic rate. The Norwegian has produced just one goal in his last four matches and faces Aston Villa away from home up next. Haaland is still very unlikely to drop out of the top five considering the gap between him and David Raya.
5. David Raya – 30.4% Ownership
For the first time this season, a goalkeeper breaks into the top five. David Raya’ (£5.5m) push into the top five is largely due to the demise of Bryan Mbeumo amongst FPL managers. However, maintaining around 30% ownership still deserves recognition. In better defensive form recently, Arsenal and Raya have a potentially tough away trip against Crystal Palace next, which will likely test their resolve.
The Rest of the Top 10
Maintaining the same position as last week is Pedro Porro (£5.6m). Porro has collected three attacking returns in his last five games, but a meeting with Liverpool could stop the full-back from continuing his form this week.
Storming into the top 10 this week is Arsenal’ William Saliba (£6.2m). This is no surprise taking into account his side have kept two clean sheet in their last four games, and teammate and fellow centre-back Gabriel’ recent absence due to injury.
Dropping close to 2% ownership on last week, Bryan Mbeumo (£7.6m) continues to slip down the list. This comes even after bagging a 13-point haul against Newcastle in Gameweek 15. Next up he faces Nottingham Forest at home, which could see potential for him once more.
Chelsea have scored more goals than any other side this season so far, so seeing Nicolas Jackson (£8.2m) maintain his position isn’t a suprise. Everton have been maintaining some of the best underlying defensive data in the league recently, albeit still conceding.
Just keeping his top 10 position is Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk (£6.4m). The Dutchman has played a huge role in his sides elite defensive record thus far. Liverpool face one their biggest challenges so far from a defensive perspective, as they meet with Tottenham.
