In this article we take a look at the top 10 most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 16. Using the Official Fantasy Premier League ownership data we can find out who the fantasy football community are picking ahead of the new round.
Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 16 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the new round.
Note: Ownership statistics will inevitably change throughout the week
1. Mohamed Salah – 62% Ownership
Further cementing his position as the highest owned player in the game this week, and growing in ownership by 2% on last week is Mohamed Salah (£13.3m). With 10 double-digit hauls already this campaign, Salah goes into his match against Fulham, not just a great pick, but a viable captaincy option.
2. Cole Palmer – 58.9% Ownership
Holding his ownership, and even making a slight growth on it, Cole Palmer (£11m) sits as the second most popular pick ahead of the new round. Brentford lay ahead for him next. The Bees have shipped more shots on target than any other side this season. So, Palmer could well add to the 100+ points already banked.
3. Erling Haaland – 43.7% Ownership
Erling Haaland (£15m) just about holds his third place position amongst the top 10. The Norwegian dropped another 3% ownership on last week. Manchester City face local rivals Manchester United next, which could see Haaland back amongst the goals after scoring just one in his previous five matches.
4. Bukayo Saka – 41.3% Ownership
Gaining more and more appeal every week, Bukayo Saka (£10.5m) has around 2% less ownership than Haaland now. Saka goes into his home fixture against Everton off the back of a huge 34 points between Gameweek 12-14.
5. Bryan Mbeumo – 29.6% Ownership
Dropping around 4% ownership and close to falling out of the top five is Brentford’ Bryan Mbeumo (£7.7m). The Bees have a tough fixture against Chelsea this week, which could see even more of his managers sell up.
The Rest of the Top 10
Closing in on Mbeumo, we could well see Pedro Porro (£5.6m) in the top five during the coming weeks. The Tottenham full-back has a lovely meeting with newly promoted side Southampton ahead, which could see him add his fourth attacking return of the campaign.
Only one other Arsenal asset makes the top 10 after Gabriel slips out. David Raya (£5.5m) remains the only goalkeeper amongst the top 10. The Spaniard has good potential against an Everton side who have failed to score in four of their last five matches.
Taking a slight dip in ownership is Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson (£8.2m), especially after an impressive recent display of form. Chelsea come up against a woeful Brentford defence this week which could give Jackson a good opportunity to continue that run.
Josko Gvardiol (£6.2m) keeps a similar number of managers to last week. Manchester City’ clean sheet against Nottingham Forest stopped a three-match run of zero-point returns for the Croatian. Up next he faces a Manchester United side under new management.
Entering the top 10 for the first time this season is Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk (£6.4m). This is probably due to a mixture of Trent Alexander-Arnold’ recent injury and Liverpool’ elite defensive data.
