Serie A Fantasy Blank and Double Gameweeks Guide
The international break continues, and whilst it does we continue to learn more about the Italian League schedule. With that in mind we bring in expert @FPL_Crisk to talk us through our Serie A Fantasy Blank and Double Gameweeks guide.
The Serie A Fantasy Blank and Double Gameweeks guide also comes with a brand new fixture ticker, all of which will help managers plan their transfers, captaincy and Wildcard around the upcoming fixtures. So, lets dive in.
Introduction
We haven’t received an official “announcement” on the schedule yet. But, Serie A’s official sites have recently updated the dates and tv times of all fixtures up until mid-January.
Those official sites didn’t just confirm the blank fixtures in Round 19. But, they also show us when those fixture could slot in, thus making Double Gameweeks.
Blank Round 19
Six teams will blank due to three blank fixtures. Those teams are: Como, Milan, Atalanta, Juventus, Inter and Bologna. This leaves Round 19 with just seven fixtures.
The fixtures during Round 19 aren’t very useful fantasy wise. In fact, Roma and Lazio clash in the Eternal City’s Derby, whilst Napoli also have a very tricky fixture against Fiorentina.
Double Round 20
The game developers are yet to confirm this, but Round 20 is most surely going to be the biggest Double Round of the season. The three blank fixtures mentioned above have been rescheduled to be played on the Tuesday and the Wednesday following the Round’s weekend.
This means that Inter, Atalanta, Juventus, Milan, Bologna and Como will all double. Many of those teams are also likely to be worth a doubling up on.
Fixture Ticker
You can see all of the information above pushed into our Fixture ticker below:
Strategy
Given that the blanks and doubles are in two consecutive Rounds, the most optimal strategy seems to involve dead ending our teams using free transfers into the blank. This allows us to then use the Wildcard immediately after.
The above would allow managers to field a full 11 during Round 19, despite the blanks, to then maximize the points during Round 20 by bringing in the doublers.
For those without a Wildcard, navigating this could be a little more tricky. I don’t think 11 players are needed for the blank round given the fixtures. In fact, I expect it to be low scoring one. So, one idea could be playing with only 9-10 players in R19 and then using 2-4 accumulated transfers as a mini WC in Round 20.
Additional Rescheduling
The only other fixture needing to be rescheduling is Bologna v Milan, which was supposed to take place in Round 9. Both teams are guaranteed to double in the future. But, I don’t expect it to happen before the February.
No other blanks are going to be planned for Serie A this season, unless extreme weather conditions or unforeseeable events cause postponements.
