UCL Fantasy Stuttgart Preview and Top Picks
The Champions League is on pause and the international break is underway. With that in mind and their upcoming fixture swing, we present the UCL Fantasy Stuttgart preview and top picks. We take a look at their form, fixtures and best players to buy for the run ahead.
Planning in-between the breaks can be hugely beneficial for UCL Fantasy managers. Knowing the type of form a team are in and who their best assets to buy are can be hugely important towards transfer, captaincy and chip plans. So, let’s dive in.
Preview
It wasn’t too long ago that Stuttgart were struggling at the pits of the Bundesliga. In fact, the German side finished their 2022/23 campaign in 16th place, forced to survive via the relegation play-offs.
Incredibly, in the following season, manger Sebastian Hoeneß turned things around. During the 2023/24 season Stuttgart won a huge 23 of their 34 Bundesliga matches, scoring 78 goals and conceding 39 in the process.
You can see in the image above that Stuttgart didn’t just finish well clear of their 22/23 placing, their consistency meant they finished second in the league, ahead of heavy weights Bayern. It also meant guaranteed Champions League participation for the 2024/25 campaign.
This season things haven’t gone as smoothly. Balancing Domestic and European football appears to be an issue for Stuttgart. Winning three, drawing four and losing three of their 10 league matches, an inconsistent start to the new campaign sees them currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga.
They seem to have started their new Champions league campaign reasonably well considering their fixtures. Although losing their recent match against Atalanta 2-0 and holding Sparta Praha to a draw in Matchday 1, they edged Italian giants Juventus in the second round.
Across both their domestic and European campaign, Stuttgart averaged 1.9 goals scored and conceded in the former, and 0.8 goals scored and 1.5 goals conceded in the latter. They also managed just two clean sheets in a combined 13 matches.
However, using the UCL Fantasy Fixture Ticker, we can see that Stuttgart are coming into a lovely period of fixtures. The German side face Crvena Zvezda, Young Boys, Slovan Bratislava and finally PSG in their next four Champions League matches.
With the above in mind, UCL Fantasy managers may be looking to target their assets in the run ahead. So, lets take a look at their best assets.
Top Picks – Enzo Millot
Enzo Millot (€6.2m) could be their standout asset from an attacking perspective. The 22-year-old hasn’t been a regular amongst his sides goals in recent years. In fact, he managed just five goals and four assists in 31 Bundesliga matches last season.
This campaign Millot seems to have found a rhythm, as he currently joint leads the way for goals and assists (eight) across all competitions. Millot isn’t just a constant attacking threat, he has also been a regular for the German side, starting all three of their Champions League matches. In addition, a share of set pieces means increased chances of adding to his goal and assist tally moving forward.
Maximilian Mittelstädt
Stuttgart’s clean sheet against Juventus shows they can keep things tight at the back. The fixtures ahead suggests they can start adding to that clean sheet tally, and one of the players ready to benefit from that is full-back Maximilian Mittelstädt (€5m).
Mittelstädt offers huge attacking impetuses, alongside his clean sheet potential. The German international ranks fourth amongst his teammates this season for goal contributions, with five assists. Crvena Zvezda, Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava, his next opponents, have maintained some of the worst offensive and defensive data in the League Phase so far. So, Mittelstädt could have huge potential in the games ahead.
Deniz Undav
Averaging around two goals scored per game domestically is a good indication that Stuttgart are fully capable of scoring goals. The German side face three of the worst defences in the Champions league ahead, so investing in their frontline could be hugely beneficial.
Sitting joint top for goals and assists this season alongside Millot is Deniz Undav (€7m). The former Brighton striker has racked up seven goals and one assist across all competitions this season, making him Stuttgart’s most dangerous player in front of goal. Undav has also started all three of their Champions League matches, which suggests he could be reliable for gametime.
