Team Reveal
Goalkeeper
Illan Meslier – Leeds United – My goalkeeper for this week is Meslier. Meslier has been in good form recently – keeping two clean sheets in the last three games and seven in 12 matches overall this season. Leeds also play Plymouth and Millwall, two sides they should beat and keep clean sheets.
Defenders
Dennis Cirkin – Sunderland – Cirkin has been a reliable player to own so far this season and is also the second highest scoring player in the game. The Sunderland full-back has produced a score below six points on just three occasions, making him the perfect asset for a double gameweek, especially with QPR and Preston ahead.
Harry Souttar – Sheffield United – One of the highest clean sheet percentage players per game is next, Souttar. So far he has kept a huge seven clean sheets in 11 games, and this week Sheffield United play Blackburn and Bristol City, two teams they should have potential against.
Midfielders
Alex Robertson (VC) – Cardiff City – Robertson wouldn’t have been considered during the first couple of weeks, but in recent games he has been one of the best players to pick. In fact, he has managed a huge 33 points in his previous three matches, averaging out to 11 per game. Most of those points are due to interceptions, which if done consistently can be more sustainable than goals or assists.
Finn Azaz – Middlesbrough – Completing my midfield is Azaz who has bagged a goal or an assist in three of his last four games. The lack of good midfield options this week also contributes to his selection. It helps that Middlesbrough have produced a better expected goals (XG) than any other Championship side so far.
Forwards
Borja Sainz (C) – Norwich City – Sainz has been one of the best forwards in the game this season, and in a week where you can only pick Championship players, he is a must. Norwich come up against Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday, two games where Sainz will likely improve on his current goal-scoring record of 10 goals in 12 games.
Elijah Adebayo – Luton Town – Adebayo has had a very poor start to the season, but has since scored in both of his last two matches. It appears he has regained the form of which everyone expected of him prior to the campaign. This week Luton play both of their games at home, so Adebayo has two great opportunities to continue his form.
Teams to Target
- Leeds – My first team is Leeds, and it’s a side I suspect will be the highest picked this week. This isn’t just because they are one of the most popular teams in the EFL but also because they have two good fixtures against Plymouth and Millwall. Leeds are unbeaten in their previous seven games, and with myself not picking them once this season, this is the perfect time to.
- Oxford United – Oxford are another team I haven’t picked so far this season, and many other managers wouldn’t have either. But, this week there is a good reason to pick them, as they play both of their games at home, and Oxford are unbeaten at home this campaign.
