Best Wildcard Team

With the help of the above and Plan FPL we built the best Wildcard for Gameweek 8:

FPL Gameweek 8 Best Wildcard Team

Goalkeepers

Goalkeepers continue to disappoint so having two cheap ones to choose from could be wise. Both Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) and Mark Flekken (£4.5m) have schedules that rotate extremely well together. This means that most of the time your goalkeeper will have a good defensive fixture.

Defence

Arsenal have a fixture against Bournemouth next up and then a mixed schedule immediately after. But, they were the best defence in the league last season and centre-back Gabriel (£6.2m) ranks the best in his position for expected goals.

Manchester City have some lovely fixtures ahead and Rico Lewis (£4.7m) continues to start for them. As well as playing in midfield and spending most of his time in the oppositions final third Lewis has managed three assists in his last four matches for club.

Nottingham Forest have been producing some fantastic underlying defensive data this season. Because of this and their good schedule ahead it could be wise to invest in their defence, so full-back Ola Aina (£4.5m) makes the cut.

Wolves have struggled this season their fixtures turn after their next meeting with Manchester City. Rayan Ait Nouri (£4.4m) could be their best option at the back. He goes into the fixtures ahead off the back of scoring two goals and creating one assist in his last two matches.

Sitting on the bench is Jacob Greaves (£4.1m). Greaves has good fixtures and helps to enable funds elsewhere.

Midfield

Brentford remain near the top of the fixture ticker and their standout pick is penalty taker Bryan Mbeumo (£7.2m). Mbeumo has been in fantastic form recently – scoring a huge six goals in his first seven matches.

Bukayo Saka (£10.1m) has been one of the most consistent assets in the game so far this season – returning in all but one of his games. With that and Arsenal’s current form it could be difficult to leave him out. It may be worth monitoring news around the recent knock he picked up on international duty however.

The above can be said for Cole Palmer (£10.8m). Only Manchester City have scored more goals than Chelsea this season and their star man and penalty taker has amassed a huge six goals and five assists already.

The Fulham schedule seems to be on an uphill trajectory again. One player who could continue to provide great value for money is Emile Smith-Rowe (£5.6m) who prior to his match against Manchester City returned in half of his matches.

Another player offering fantastic value for money is Morgan Rogers (£5.3m). Aston Villa look to have continued their 2023/24 form into the new season and Rogers has produced 20 points in his last three league matches.

Forwards

Manchester City’s great fixtures suggests it could be unwise to go without Erling Haaland (£15.4m). The Norwegian has blanked in his last two league matches but with good fixtures ahead and 10 goals in his first seven matches he stands out ideal captaincy option.

Tottenham rank amongst the best two teams in the league for several attacking metrics and spearheading their frontline into a good period of fixtures is Dominic Solanke (£7.6m). Solanke has racked up a return in each of his last three matches, suggesting he has found his rhythm.

Ipswich have failed to score in just two of their seven matches so far this season. That and good fixtures ahead could mean they hold some value in attack. Liam Delap (£5.6m) is their standout option, having returned 18 points in his last two games due to three goals.

We plan several Gameweeks ahead in FPL and highlight the best players to buy for the run ahead in this article here.
