Fantasy EFL Team Reveal for Gameweek 9

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at @FPLEdgeworth‘s Fantasy EFL team reveal for Gameweek 9. Our expert shares his team, rationale around each pick and discusses the two teams he is backing to win for the new round.

Our Fantasy EFL team reveal for Gameweek 9 could be very helpful for fantasy managers. Knowing who our expert picks could be extremely enlightening. It could also bring clarity to some of the decisions we have to make in our own teams.

Team Reveal

Goalkeeper

Joe WhitworthExeter City – Whitworth is the highest scoring goalkeeper in the game, and deservingly so, with Exeter keeping clean sheets in over half of their games. They play Cambridge this week, who have failed to score in half their games and sit bottom of the league. So, this suggests a strong chance of a Whitworth clean sheet.

Defenders

Lucas Pires – Burnley – Pires has had a decent start to the season so far, reaching 50 points from eight games and returning five or more points in 75% of the games he has played this season. Burnley face Preston this week in a Lancashire derby, the game should be tight, and I back Burnley to walk away with the clean sheet.

Carl Piergianni – Stevenage – Piergianni was a pick for many in Double Gameweek 7 and is a pick for me this week. He is the second highest scoring defender in a Stevenage team who kept clean sheets in over two thirds of their games. Added with Piergianni clearance points, he’s a good asset.

Midfielders

Josh Brownhill (C)Burnley – Brownhill was in my team last week, and he’s in my team this week after scoring a penalty in the previous round. This makes Brownhill an even better asset, especially with Preston ahead. We’ve only seen it three times this season, but he can pop up with a double-digit haul at any time due to the attacking returns and the interceptions he gets.

Daniel Crowley – Notts County – Crowley has been underwhelming recently, and other than his two massive hauls, he hasn’t done much. But similar to what we had with Luke Molyneux a couple weeks ago, when people stop picking him, he normally punishes them, and with Crowley playing Port Vale, who have been quite poor in recent games, regardless of winning, I am going to take one more chance with him and hope it pays off.

Forwards

Jay Stansfield – Birmingham City – Stansfield is a man who made lots of headlines with his reported fee to Birmingham for 15-20 million, which is outrageous for League One. In his first four games for the club, he has returned. He plays a Charlton team who haven’t won in three games next up so I expect him to perform.

Ronan Coughlan (VC) – Fleetwood Town – Coughlan is a player who has gone under the radar at the start of the season due to only just recently getting a run of starts. But now with four returns in his last four games and a very favourable fixture against Bromley at home, there is no reason why he shouldn’t continue his very impressive form once again this week.

Team Selections

Birmingham City – Birmingham are still unbeaten in the EFL, which is something only one other club in the EFL can say. I haven’t actually selected them thus far which gives me reason to. This week Birmingham come up against a Charlton side who have lost their last three games, and with Birmingham playing away from home, I think they are a must-pick with the bonus points they will pick up from winning.

Gillingham – Gillingham are another team I haven’t used so far this season, and with them being currently top of League Two and away against a Crewe side who have been overperforming so far this season, I think Gillingham should win this and get me more extra points for being the away team and winning.
