Our Fantasy EFL Fantasy top picks for Gameweek 9 can be hugely beneficial for fantasy managers. Knowing who the best players to own in each position and top two teams to target are could help you beat your mini-league rivals and secure a good rank.
Goalkeepers – Nathan Baxter (Bolton)
23rd from bottom Shrewsbury have really struggled this season so far. For that reason and the fact that they have a home match investing in Bolton goalkeeper Nathan Baxter could be a great option. Interestingly both sides recently met in the Cup and the game ended 2-0 to Bolton.
Owen Goodman (AFC Wimbledon)
Salford are another side who have started the new campaign questionably. Failing to score in either of their last two matches isn’t the type of form they will want going into a match against AFC Wimbledon who have kept four consecutive clean sheets in the league. With that in mind Owen Goodman has a good opportunity to keep another shutout this week.
Defenders – Max Cleworth (Wrexham)
Wrexham are one of few sides across all three leagues yet to drop a single point at home, which is where they play this week. As well as having very good clean sheet potential Max Cleworth has also proven to be a major goal threat – scoring two goals and creating one assist since the start of the season.
Robbie McKenzie (Gillingham)
Gillingham have picked up three consecutive clean sheets in their last three matches and they have another good opportunity to keep another this week. Robbie McKenzie is another defender who could offer multiple routes to points this week after scoring two goals and registering one assist in his last three matches.
Midfielders – Josh Brownhill (Burnley)
Burnley have a lovely fixture against Preston at home this week. Preston are averaging close to two goals conceded per game as they sit 22nd in the league (at the time of writing). To target their ropey defence we could opt for Josh Brownhill. Brownhill doesn’t just offer a safe floor in terms of points due to additional metrics but he has also offers goal and assist potential as evident in his four goal contributions already this season.
Lee Evans (Blackpool)
Blackpool are quickly shooting up the table after winning their last four league matches on the bounce. They are also in fantastic scoring form as well – racking up 2+ goals in all of those same games. Captain Lee Evans seems to be amongst the success having managed two goals and four assists since the start of the campaign.
Forwards – Josh Maja (West Brom)
West Brom sit top of the Championship after an impressive five wins from seven. Playing at home this week the Baggies have a good opportunity to pick up a win and main man Josh Maja comes to mind. Maja has been in relentless form since the start of the season – scoring a huge seven goals. His efforts have seen him hit an average of 8+ points per game in Fantasy EFL so far.
Louie Barry (Stockport County)
21-year-old Louie Barry is another player we should look to this week. The Stockport striker has netted six times already this season and a home match against Wigan who sit 16th in the league could see him add to that total
Team Selections
- Gillingham – As highlighted already Gillingham have managed three consecutive wins and clean sheets in their last three matches. They also play away from home which could mean additional points if successful.
- Birmingham – Top of the league and in great form Birmingham face an away trip to a Charlton side who have lost their last two matches this week. With 2+ goals in each of their last four matches, which they also won. Birmingham could be one of the best teams to pick this week.
