FPL Challenge Gameweek 6 Tips and Team Reveal

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at FPL Challenge Gameweek 6. As well as picking out some of the best players for the round ahead specific to the Challenge structure we also bring in @FPLReaction to share his team and thoughts ahead of the new round.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 6 is here. With exciting new badges to earn and prizes to win FPL Challenge have made some massive changes. With that in mind our tips and team reveal could be exactly what you need to have success.

What is the Challenge this week?

The Challenge for Gameweek 6 is ‘Only players from Africa’.

Challengers can only select players who are from Africa. This is the second round of Challenges, named ‘International Series.

Top Picks

Goalkeeper

Usually we would talk through the different options available to us at this point. However, with only one African goalkeeper playing in the Premier League, Challengers will be forced into selecting Manchester United’s Andre Onana.

The above may not necessarily be a bad thing. Although the Red Devils face Tottenham this week Onana has been in fine form recently. In fact, taking into account his penalty save, two clean sheets and three bonus in the last two matches Onana could even have good potential going into the round.

Defenders

The defender pool is limited this week with only several viable options available.

For managers who want to take a risk and double up on the Manchester United defence with Andre Onana then full-back Noussair Mazraoui could be an option. The Algerian has picked up a return in all but one of his matches so far.

The standout option in defence this week could well be Ola Aina. Nottingham Forest play at home this week against Fulham which could suggest they have clean sheet potential. The fact they rank third best in the league so far for expected goals conceded reinforces that.

Some may decide they want to back the visiting side, Fulham. If that is the case then centre-back Calvin Bassey could be a good pick. Other options include Ipswich’s Axel Tuanzebe who faces Aston Villa at home and Wolves’s Rayan Ait Nouri who has a difficult meeting with Liverpool away.

Midfielders

Midfield seems to be where most of the best options are, with the pick of the bunch being Mohamed Salah. Liverpool go into their match in fine form as they lock horns with a Wolves side who have conceded between 2-6 goals in four of their five matches so far. As well as racking up three double-digit hauls and seven goal contributions Salah also takes his sides penalties.

Another player who should be hugely popular this week is Brentford talisman Bryan Mbeumo. The Bees will be hoping to bounce back from two consecutive defeats as they clash with a West Ham side who rank the worst in the league for total shots in the box conceded and joint worst for total big chances conceded. Mbeumo goes into the game with four goals in his first five matches, showing plenty of form.

Antoine Semenyo is another brilliant option. Bournemouth are also short of overall form, similar to Brentford. Giving the Cherries hope this week is there fixture against newly promoted side Southampton. Semenyo returned in all three of first matches of the season and leads every other midfielder in the game for total attempts on goal.

Looking beyond ‘the big three’ this week Challengers could also consider Fulham’s Alex Iwobi against Nottingham Forest. Some could decide they want to back West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus against a ropey Brentford defence. We also can’t forget about Brighton midfielders Simon Adingra and Yankuba Minteh as they go into their clash with Chelsea.

Forwards

The injuries to Patson Daka and Yoane Wissa have reduced the already limited pool of strikers available this week. That and his recent form makes Chelsea hitman Nicolas Jackson a key target for FPL Challengers.

Chelsea go into their home game against Brighton full of confidence after sweeping aside West Ham in a 3-0 defeat during the recent round. Well involved in Chelsea’s early season success is Jackson who has already amassed four goals and two assists.

Challengers who want to deliberately avoid Jackson, or simply add another forward to their line-up, then Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye is the next best option. The former Sheffield United and Marseille attacker faces Crystal Palace at home this week and does so after finding the net in his recent match against Leicester.

@FPLReaction Team Reveal

  • Andre Onana being the only goalkeeper option isn’t ideal. It also doesn’t help that the defender and forward pool of players aren’t great either.
  • The above means that Onana, Ola Aina and Nicolas Jackson all take their place in the line-up. In fact, I kind of feel forced into it.
  • Another thing being forced, or at least it feels like is going with two in midfield, in fact, I wish I could have three of them.
  • There is two major decisions this week, one being picking two of Salah, Mbeumo and Semenyo. I think the decision is closer than it looks. The second decision is captaincy. Both of those decisions, although set above, could well change for me.
  • Part of me thinks leaving out Salah, bringing in Semenyo ad captaining Mbeumo could be fun, until it isn’t.
  • Good luck this week guys! You can check out how I did last week below.

Gameweek 5 Challenge Review

  • I managed 39 points last week, mostly due to captaining Luis Diaz. The rest of my team blanked and I stupidly decided against Nunez even though he started.
  • I also had to change my goalkeeper last minute with Alisson out due to injury.
  • My week rank was 300k but still hold an overall rank of 34k, which is fine.
  • You’ll also see that I picked up my first badge of the season (Pro 1), which is somewhere in the middle. The plan is to get better and better each week.
