Atalanta
Notes
- Atalanta were extremely active in the transfer market, as they had to make up for the losses of Koopmeiners (to Juventus) and Scamacca (ACL injury).
- Their team finally has an impressive amount of depth in midfield with the additions of Brescianini, Samardzic and Sulemana. The first two can also play behind Retegui, adding competition to De Ketelaere, Lookman and Zaniolo.
- As long as they can improve defensively (Kossounou is a good signing in this direction), they can become a tough team for elite sides to deal with.
Bologna
Notes
- Manager Italiano is known for his obsession with rotation, Pep is a rookie compared to him. In fact at one point he had never fielded the same line-up ever in over 135 consecutive matches.
- Bologna have several options at CB, with Beukema, Erlic, Lucumi and Casale all good enough to start, even Posch can move to CB and leave space for Holm at RB.
- Orsolini is the star player of the team, while at striker it will take some time to understand who’s the main starter between Castro and Dallinga.
Inter
Notes
- Inter was an outstanding team already, so they didn’t need to change much.
- Their two main signings were the free transfers of Zielinski and Taremi. The latter is a much needed addition as it means they do not need to rely on Arnautovic (way out of his prime) in case Lautaro or Thuram are unavailable.
Juventus
Notes
- This is the Italian team which changed the most during the summer. Thiago Motta completely reshaped the style of the team from a passive one like Allegri’s to one heavily focused on maintaining possession. He is also not afraid of rotating the team and having young unexperienced players in the starting eleven as long as they fit with his ideas. For example Belgian youngster Mbangula impressed in the first two fixtures with a couple of attacking returns, and could be used to rotate the wingers even in important matches.
Milan
Notes
- AC Milan are having a difficult start to the season under new manager Fonseca. The team doesn’t seem to have arrived at their peak physical performance yet, and are really struggling defensively, especially against fast counter-attacking teams (see Parma-Milan 2-1). This could be a big problem against Liverpool in the first fixture.
- Formation wise, Fonseca seems to be sticking with his 4-2-3-1 no matter what, with the only big change which could see Pulisic at CAM making space for Chukwueze at RW.
