We can see that two players managed more than 3000 minutes. One of those players was goalkeeper Andre Onana (£5m). Joining him but as the only defender to rack up 3000+ minutes was full-back Diogo Dalot (£5m).
Injuries plagued the Manchester United backline last season and no other defensive player played more than 2000 minutes. The only player to come close was full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.5m) who managed 1781 minutes.
No far away from Wan-Bissaka was centre-back Harry Maguire (£5m) who played 1679 minutes.
When it comes to attacking threat we can see that although Maguire played less minutes than several teammates he still racked up the most goal contributions with six.
Diogo Dalot impressed with five attacking returns last season. His tally was helped by two goals and three assists.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was one of two players who produced two attacking returns.
Additional Notes
Manchester United have several key defenders back from injury including centre-back Lisandro Martinez (£4.5m) who started five matches for Argentina in the recent COPA America.
Left-back Luke Shaw (£5m) has also returned to first team action after featuring for England during the EURO’s.
The Reds also signed rising star Leny Yoro (£4.5m). However, Yoro picked up an injury during pre-season which means he could be out for around three months according to some sources.
Conclusion
Taking into account pricing and attacking threat the standout at the time of writing may be Lisandro Martinez. When fit Martinez is nailed into the Manchester United backline and comes in £0.5m cheaper than most of the other options.
Luke Shaw could also secure the left-back position and could be a consideration if we see his minutes improve.

- 10th – Goals scored
- 10th – Expected goals

Alejandro Garnacho (£6.5m) managed more than 2500 mutes last season and ranked second best for gametime.
Midfielder Marcus Rashford (£7m) and Rasmus Hojlund (£7m) were the only other attackers to exceed the 2000 minute mark.
We also saw a similar pattern when comparing their attacking threat.
Bruno Fernandes racked up 19 attacking returns with the help of 10 goals and nine assists. Garnacho was just five goal contributions short of Fernandes after producing seven goals and seven assists last season.
Leading the attack was Hojlund who banked a solid 12 attacking returns. Rashford played more minutes but bagged just 10 attacking returns.
Additional Notes
It could be worth highlighting that midfielder Jadon Sancho (£6.5m) returned from his Dortmund loan spell this summer, so he could be someone to monitor.
Former Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount (£6.5m) has also returned from injury after a 23/24 season plagued by injury.
Manchester United have also signed former Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee (£7m) who will almost certainly play a role in the frontline this season.

The standout attacking option is of course penalty taker Bruno Fernandes. As well as dominating both minutes and attacking returns Fernandes has multiple routes to points via set pieces, creativity and goal threat.
Another great option could be Alejandro Garnacho who proved excellent value for money last season. He could remain one of the best attacking options even with the price bump.
Marcus Rashford could be another player to keep an eye on after bagging a goal and two assists in pre-season.
