Manchester City Top Picks for FPL 2024/25

Last modified date

Fantasy Premier League has launched ahead of the new season and managers are hoping to fill their teams with the right players. We help narrow that search down as we take a look at the Manchester City top picks for FPL 2024/25.

Picking out the Manchester City top picks for FPL 2024/25 can be extremely helpful for fantasy managers. Manchester City were one of the best teams in the Premier League last season which made them a go-to team in terms of investment.

It was another successful season for Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side. The English Champions regained another Premier League title whilst edging their closest challenger Arsenal who battled them all of the way to the end.

Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture ticker based on the first six Gameweeks. Interestingly the current Premier League champions sit 18th on the ticker which suggests they have the third worst starting fixtures in the league.

Manchester City Defence

Manchester City were fantastic last season and we also saw that in their defensive numbers as they ranked (best):

  • 2nd – Goals conceded
  • Joint 2nd – Clean sheets kept
  • 2nd – Total shots in the box conceded
  • 1st – Total attempts conceded
  • 2nd – Total shots on target conceded
  • 2nd – Big chances total conceded

Comparing the Manchester Defensive Assets

Let’s now take a look and compare the Manchester City defensive assets for both minutes and goal threat.

We can see that Kyle Walker (£5.5m) played more gametime than any other teammate last season with 2777 minutes. Not far off Walker is goalkeeper Ederson (£5.5m) who played 2772 minutes.

Two centre-backs exceeded the 2500 minute mark, Ruben Dias (£5.5m) and Manuel Akanji (£5.5m).

Josko Gvardiol (£6m) started off his season slow in terms of minutes but started Manchester City’s last 10 matches.

We can see that although playing less gametime than some of the other players Gvardiol managed more attacking returns with six. The Croatian has also registered an assist in his most recent friendly.

Kyle Walker was just one goal contribution shy with five which was matched by Nathan Ake (£5.5m).

Ruben Dias couldn’t muster up a single attacking return in his recent Premier League campaign.

Conclusion

Josko Gvardiol, although more expensive, could well be the most attractive defensive pick from an investment perspective. Not only did he become key for Manchester City last season but he was also explosive offensively.

Kyle Walker could be the next best option. Walker still poses a threat in attack but is also one of Manchester City’ most reliable asset in terms of gametime. Based on how far England advanced in EURO 2024 however, it could be worth monitoring his minutes pre-season.

Manchester City Attack

Manchester City were also of course one of the best attacking units in the league last season, ranking (best):

  • 1st – Goals scored
  • 2nd – Expected goals
  • 2nd – Total attempts on goal
  • 3rd – Total shots in the box
  • 3rd – Big chances total
  • 1st – Total shots on target

Comparing the Manchester City Attackers

No player managed to bank more minutes than Rodri (£6.5m) last season with 2980 minutes. Playing the second most minutes was fellow midfielder Phil Foden (£9.5m) with 2864 minutes.

Helped by injuries elsewhere striker Julian Alvarez (£7m) played the third most gametime. He was closely followed by midfielder Bernardo Silva (£6.5m) who played 2604 minutes.

Striker Erling Haaland (£15m) would have certainly played more than 2560 minutes if he didn’t pick up injuries. The same can be said for midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m) who missed most of the season due to injury.

It may be no surprise to see Erling Haaland at the top. The Norwegian produced 35 goal contributions last season which was eight more than Phil Foden who sits second.

Julian Alvarez was effective when playing and Rodri was steady with his output from central midfield.

Kevin De Bruyne produced an impressive 14 attacking returns after just 15 starts.

Conclusion

The standout attacking option is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian still edged his teammates for returns even with injury dampening his overall gametime. He has ‘some fitness’ issues according to the manager so he could be worth monitoring pre-season.

Phil Foden went deep into the EURO’s with England but he could be the second best attacking option in the Manchester City frontline.

You can’t rule out Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian was extremely effective with the minutes he did play so if he can maintain his fitness he could be a brilliant option.

Rodri’ minutes and price make him a differential option. Usually his position would be off-putting but because he plays for Manchester City which helps him to advance from central midfield he could be a consideration.

Manchester City Top Picks

After comparing all players for both minutes and attacking potential the Manchester City Top Picks for FPL 2024/25 are:

  • Josko Gvardiol
  • Erling Haaland
  • Phil Foden
  • Kyle Walker
  • Kevin De Bruyne
  • Rodri
