EURO 2024 Fantasy Portugal Top Picks

In this article we take a look at the EURO 2024 Fantasy Portugal top picks. Here we touch upon the recent form of Portugal, how they achieved qualification, highlight their best picks, and anything else of relevance.

Our EURO 2024 Fantasy Portugal top picks could be crucial for managers. Knowing how a team has been performing recently can be helpful. But, knowing who the best picks from each team can be essential for the tournament ahead.

The recent World Cup was a good one for Portugal. Whilst there they claimed top spot in the Group ahead of South Korea, Uruguay and Ghana, but eventually exited in the Quarter-Finals against Morocco.

Portugal then continued their good form in the recent Nations League campaign. They won three of their six matches and netted 11 goals to claim second place, finishing just one point behind Spain.

Portugal then went on to have a perfect EURO Qualifying round after winning 10 out of 10 matches, racking up a mammoth 36 goals, conceding just two goals and keeping a massive nine clean sheets.

In their most recent friendlies they beat Sweden 4-2, lost to Slovenia 2-0 and dismantled Finland in a 4-2 victory.

EURO 2024 Fixtures

Portugal start their EURO campaign against Czechia in Matchday 1. Czechia finished rock bottom of their most recent Nations League campaign. However, it could be worth mentioning they were up the likes of Spain and Portugal. Czechia then finished EURO Qualifying in second place, being edged by Albania by just head-to-head record.

In their second match Portugal face Türkiye who topped their recent Nations League Group and their Qualifying Group after seeing off Croatia, Wales and Armenia. They also failed to win any of their last three friendlies however.

Portugal then finish their campaign with a game against Georgia. Georgia come into the competition as newbies having failed to qualify for a EURO or World Cup campaign in their history. Georgia scraped through EURO Qualifying after finishing fourth and having to progress via the play-offs.

Top Picks – Diogo Costa

As we saw above, Portugal have been brilliant recently and part of that brilliance came from their backline. Nine clean sheets and two goals conceded in EURO Qualifying, combined with some great fixtures ahead make them one of the most appealing defences to invest in for the tournament ahead.

The biggest issue in the Portugal backline is rotation. With players like Diogo Dalot (€5m), Nuno Mendes (€5m), Goncalo Inacio (€4.5m), Pepe (€5m) and Andre Silva (€5m) all battling out for a spot in the starting XI, it could be wise to select goalkeeper Diogo Costa (€5m).

Costa isn’t just the cheapest and most reliable asset in the Portugal defence, but when comparing him to every other goalkeeper in the game, he could well be the best of the bunch.

Joao Cancelo

Clean sheets are a great way of picking up points. But, Joao Cancelo (€6m) could potentially offer much more than that. Historically very attacking Cancelo has consistently shown great attacking threat in most of the clubs he has featured for.

As well as producing two goals and four assists in La Liga and two goals and one assist in the Champions League for Barcelona last season, Cancelo has also impressed offensively for country. In fact, not only did he score two goals and register an assist in his recent Nations League but he also bagged three goals in nine EURO Qualifiers.

Offering both defensive and offensive potential, Joao Cancelo eases into the EURO 2024 Fantasy Portugal top picks.

Bruno Fernandes

Portugal averaged a huge 3.6 goals per game in EURO Qualifying so combined with their fixtures they feel like a must offensively.

The standout Portugal attacker is midfielder Bruno Fernandes (€9m). Fernandes has had another strong season at Manchester United, scoring 10 goals and producing eight assists in just 35 matches. He also helped his side win the FA Cup which could boost his confidence ahead of the tournament.

Fernandes isn’t just a consistent performer for club but also for country. Although mild in the Nations League with one goal and one assist Fernandes then amassed a mammoth six goals and seven assists in just 10 EURO Qualifiers.

Rumours suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo won’t make Matchday 1, so as well as corners and free kicks Fernandes could well take over penalty taking duty too.

One to Watch

There are some major question marks around how reliable some of the Portugal attackers are in terms of minutes. Only one other player looks nailed for gametime and that is this man.

Cristiano Ronaldo (€10m) is in a race to be fit for Matchday one, and a race he may well lose. However, if fit then Ronaldo is one of the best assets in the game. Spearheading one of the most relentless frontlines coming into the EUROs is enough alone to make Ronaldo appealing.

In his first season in the Saudi Pro League it’s fair to say Ronaldo settled quickly. The 39-year-old hit a whopping 35 goals and 11 assists last season, meaning he totalled 46 goal contributions in 31 matches.

His international record makes him one of the best in history but even more recently he managed 10 goals and two assists in just nine EURO Qualifying matches.

Ronaldo sits in the one to watch section but reports confirming he is fit ahead of the EURO’ could quickly change that.
