EURO 2024 Fantasy Ukraine Top Picks
In this article we take a look at the EURO 2024 Fantasy Ukraine top picks. Here we touch upon the recent form of Ukraine, how they achieved qualification, highlight their best picks, and anything else of relevance.
Our EURO 2024 Fantasy Ukraine top picks could be crucial for managers. Knowing how a team has been performing recently can be helpful. But, knowing who the best picks from each team can be essential for the tournament ahead.
The last time Ukraine participated in a World Cup was in 2006 and they finished second in their Group Stage just three points behind Spain. From there Ukraine beat Switzerland in the round of 16 but then crashed out after a 3-0 loss against Italy in the Quarter-Finals.
Since then their overall success has been been lacking. Although they qualified for the EURO’ in 2012, 2016 and 2021, they failed in all of their attempts to make it out of the Group – picking up just six points from all nine matches combined.
Their recent Nations League campaign was also quite mediocre, edging a poor Ireland and Armenia but failing to top the Group ahead of Scotland.
Ukraine then went onto to have what some would call a very strong EURO Qualifying round. Although they finished third in the Group Ukraine collected the same amount of points as international powerhouse Italy, losing out only due to their head-to-head record.
Their numbers may also be of use – they won four, drew two, lost two, scored 11 goals (1.5 per game average), conceded eight goals (one goal per game) and kept just three clean sheets.
The above meant Ukraine had to beat two opponents to book their place in the finals and they did exactly that against both Bosnia and Iceland.
The only match Ukraine have played since was against Germany. Ukraine held the EURO 2024 hosts to a draw which was something to be proud of considering the Germans were close to full strength.
EURO 2024 Fixtures
Ukraine have a great Group to attack. They begin their campaign up against Romania. Romania sit 46th on the FIFA Ranking system, finished rock bottom of their latest Nations League campaign but then topped their EURO Qualifying Group. They did however fail to win any of their recent friendlies against Bulgaria, Colombia and Northern Ireland.
They then come face to face with Slovakia in Matchday 2. Slovakia’ recent Nations League was also poor as they finished third behind the likes of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. They then finished second in their EURO Qualifying Group, eight points behind Portugal and five points ahead of Luxembourg.
Ukraine then finish their campaign against Belgium who are arguably their toughest opponents. Belgium finished rock bottom of their 2022 World Cup after an extremely disappointing tournament. They then went onto top their EURO Qualifying Group, sitting one point ahead of Austria but a huge 10 points ahead of Sweden.
Top Picks – Andriy Lunin
Ukraine have some great fixtures in their Group. Barring their match against Belgium you couldn’t really ask for easier fixtures. Romania and Slovakia could be great opportunities to invest in the Ukraine defence and there seems to be one clear standout pick.
EURO Fantasy managers are finding it difficult to find a cheap goalkeeper with clean sheet potential. Because of that we simply have to highlight Andriy Lunin (€4.5m). Lunin had an exceptional 23/24 club campaign. In fact, Lunin wasn’t just a bystander to the Champions League and La Liga win with Real Madrid last season but he actually played most of the matches involved.
Lunin showed fantastic shot stopping ability in the Champions League. This is something he could well carry into the tournament ahead. With that in mind and his potential for clean sheets Lunin is an easy addition into the EURO 2024 Fantasy Ukraine top picks.
Mykhaylo Mudryk
For managers looking into the Ukraine frontline then midfielder Mykhaylo Mudryk (€7m) could be a great option.
Prior to life at English Chelsea Mudryk was thriving for Shakhtar Donetsk. In fact in his last season their he racked up seven goals and six assists in the league. It may also be worth highlighting that in the same season he amassed an impressive three goals and two assists in the Champions league.
Five goals and two assists in his first Premier League season is well below his potential. But, two goals and two assists in EURO Qualifying suggests he plays much better for country. Because of this we have to consider Mudryk if opting for one of their attackers.
Artem Dovbyk
Mudryk could be a great option but if you’re buying into the Ukraine attack it probably has to be Artem Dovbyk (€7.5m).
Some football fans out there are probably thinking, who are the players who catapulted Girona into the Champions League this season, well this man is one of them. Artem Dovbyk was outstanding in his 23/24 campaign and racked up a massive 24 goals and eight assists in 36 La Liga matches.
32 attacking returns last season was fantastic. But, his season ending form of 10 goals and three assists in his last 10 matches of the campaign also suggests he goes into EURO 2024 with huge confidence.
Whilst not as relentless for country Dovbyk still managed three goals in the Qualifying round. As well as form Dovbyk also has penalty taking duty. Considering all of this Dovbyk looks like the standout attacking option for Ukraine.
Viktor Tsygankov
Girona didn’t just have just one Ukrainian star in their record breaking season, but two. In-game forward Viktor Tsygankov (€6m) also contributed towards Girona’ success and that came in the form of eight goals and seven assists.
Tsygankov evidently has both assist and goal potential. But he also comes in at a much cheaper price than his teammate Dovbyk. He also appears to be more effective in national colours too as he produced three goals and one assist in EURO Qualifying.
Viktor Tsygankov may not have penalties. But taking into account his international form and price-tag, he should definitely be a consideration.
Ones to Watch
Ukraine have several different options we should monitor. One of them is of course Arsenal man and midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko (€5.5m). Zinchenko takes his sides corners and free kicks. This alone could provide plenty of appeal. He also picked up a goal and an assist in the Qualifiers.
Another more attacking midfield option to consider is 21-year-old and rising star in Ukraine Georgiy Sudakov (€6.5m). Sudakov has shown flickers of brilliance in the Champions League over the years – scoring against Barcelona in the campaign just gone. Sudakov also hit a goal and two assists in Qualifying.
Some players may even be looking for a cheaper but more attacking defensive option. If that’s the case then Vitaliy Mykolenko (€4.5m) could be that. Mykolenko managed two goals for Everton last season. He also showed attacking potential in Qualifying after providing an assist.
