Checking out some of the FPL stat kings in 23/24 could be really helpful when looking ahead to the 24/25 season. Knowing which teams and players sustained the best data could help us make future decisions around transfers, captaincy and more.

Team Stats

Arsenal finished second in the latest Premier League campaign, just two points behind eventual winners Manchester City.

When it came to defence, no team could better Arsenal. The Gooners racked up more clean sheets (18) and conceded less goals (29) than any other side in the league.

Arsenal didn’t just edge every other side for the stats above, they also dominated for metrics including expected goals conceded (28.42), shots in the box conceded (195), shots on target conceded (83), and big chances conceded (40).

Manchester City claimed their fourth consecutive title in 23/24 and although fell short of Arsenal defensively, they topped a lot of the key attacking data.

In fact, the Champions scored more goals (96), more goals outside the box (15) and had more shots on target (273) than any other side.

Unlike Arsenal and defensive data, Manchester City didn’t dominate all of the key offensive metrics however. This was because Liverpool also impressed when it came to underlying attacking data. The Reds managed to top the expected goals scored (89.37), total attempts on goal (790), total shots in the box (515), and attempts from set pieces (202).

Player Stats

Everton deserve their flowers after a very good season defensively. The Toffees finished their campaign keeping the second most clean sheets (13) in the division.

One of the biggest contributing factors towards the above was Jordan Pickford. The England number one secured the most FPL points in his position (153) whilst also finishing top for bonus points (22) and joint first for double-digit hauls (four).

It wasn’t a straight forward title win in 23/24 as they battled with Arsenal right until the end. They needed each of their star players firing on all cylinders and we got exactly that again from main man Erling Haaland.

Haaland once again secured the Golden Boot for his goal scoring tally (27). However, he was also extremely dominant in other attacking metrics as well including non-penalty expected goal involvement (25.23), total attempts on goal (121), total shots in the box (114) and big chances total (55).

Both Newcastle and star striker Alexander Isak also deserve credit too. The Magpies had a questionable season in 23/24 after finishing seventh in the league but, they were a real goal threat throughout.

In fact, no team produced more big chances (134) than Newcastle last season. This may have been largely due to Alexander Isak who has a very successful season. The Swedish international scored the third most goals (21) but also had the second most big chances (40) in 23/24.
