In this article we take a look through the FPL top picks for Gameweek 36. Using the Fantasy Football Scout fixture ticker and underlying stats we reel off the best goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards to buy for round ahead.

As we approach the latter stages of the season it could be even more important to get it right. Knowing which players have the most potential going into the new round could be extremely helpful when it comes to transfers, captaincy and chips.

Goalkeepers – Martin Dubravka

Newcastle rank high on the fixture ticker this week. They come up against promoted side Burnley who look destined for relegation. The Magpies have been questionable defensively in parts this season but two clean sheets in the last three matches means Martin Dubravka (£4.3m) could have solid potential this week.

Jordan Pickford

Everton have a great fixture this week against Luton. Although seemingly a tight game on paper, the Toffees have surprisingly kept the second most clean sheets in the league this season, so they shouldn’t be underestimated. Helping them achieve that has been Jordan Pickford (£4.7m) who has managed a huge 26 points in his last four matches.

David Raya

Every match seems like a tricky one for Arsenal these days as they challenge for the title. However, we have to look at the hard facts and Arsenal have sustained the best defensive line in terms of the underlying data. With that in mind David Raya (£5.2m) becomes one of the best goalkeeper options this week.

Defenders – Fabian Schar

Newcastle’ recent performances indicate an uptake in form from a defensive perspective. The game against Burnley is also a huge factor towards their appeal this week. As well as clean sheet potential centre-back Fabian Schar (£5.7m) can have huge attacking threat. Not only did he have more total attempts on goal and shots in the box than any other defender last season but he also scored in one of his most recent matches.

Jarrod Branthwaite

Targeting promoted sides continues to be a good play from FPL managers and that doesn’t change this week. Everton rank as the second best defence in the league for clean sheets so centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite (£4.3m) could have potential against Luton. As well as being poor overall Luton rank with the worst five teams for total headed attempts conceded and total attempts from set plays conceded. Branthwaite has the potential to take advantage and his recent goal against Liverpool is proof of that.

Gabriel

The Arsenal defence has become essential when it comes to investment so their inclusion is vital. The game against Bournemouth doesn’t lessen their potential this week. Ranking the best for total goals from set plays this season the Arsenal centre-backs also offer attacking threat, one of those is of course Gabriel (£5.4m) who has racked up five goals this season.

Kyle Walker

Manchester City face Wolves this week, a side who although impressing some football fans have lost three of their last four matches and failed to score in their last two games. To gain from Wolves’ recent bluntness in front of goal we could look to Kyle Walker (£5.3m). Not only is Walker the safest route into to the Manchester City backline in terms of minutes but he also registered two assists in one of his recent matches.

Midfielders – Anthony Gordon

Newcastle are in great goal scoring form – netting 13 goals in their last six league matches. Burnley lay ahead and although they have improved recently, have still failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 10 matches. To target the poor Burnley backline it makes sense to bring in Anthony Gordon (£6.2m), a player who has collected three assists and a goal in his last four games.

Bukayo Saka

No team in the league have scored more goals than Arsenal this season, so buying into their frontline could be essential. Five goals against Chelsea recently suggests Arsenal aren’t slowing down and their main man and penalty taker continues to be Bukayo Saka (£9m). Saka has slowed down recently in terms of output but a goal and an assist in his last four matches shows he is still a threat. He also remains the Arsenal penalty taker which we should not forget.

Kai Havertz

Bournemouth may not appear as a team to target but the Cherries rank amongst the worst five teams in the league for total goals conceded and total shots on target conceded. Kai Havertz (£7.4m) is another Arsenal player who can take advantage of that after bagging two double-digit hauls in his last four league matches. He also continues to feature in a strikers role recently as well.

Cole Palmer

West Ham seem to be entering a slump again after conceding a huge seven goals in their last two league matches. The Hammers may find it tough to reverse that form as they come up against a Chelsea side who have netted more than two goals in five of their last six matches. Their standout attacker is Cole Palmer (£6.2m). Palmer has been exceptional this season and has hit nine goals and one assist in his last five league matches.

Phil Foden

Manchester City have seemingly shifted into their usual relentless latter stages form after bagging nine goals in their last two matches. An inconsistent Wolves lay ahead, which is a good opportunity for Phil Foden (£8.3m) to add to his six goals in the last six matches.

Forwards – Alexander Isak

Buying into the in-from Newcastle attack when they face Burnley this week should be an essential for FPL managers. Spearheading the Newcastle frontline is Alexander Isak (£8.2m). The Newcastle penalty taker has racked up an impressive five goals and one assist in his last five league matches so goes into the game in top form.

Erling Haaland

The Manchester City attack is in too good a form to exclude their key assets going into the new round. Wolves, their upcoming opposition have shipped two goals in three of their last four so defensively, things have not been good. Because of this, although short of output recently, penalty taker Erling Haaland (£14.1m) remains an easy addition to the FPL top picks for Gameweek 36.

Jean-Philippe Mateta

Crystal Palace have improved massively since the new manager took over and go into the next fixture with three wins on the bounce under their belt. They face Manchester United this week who sit amongst the worst three teams in the division for both total attempts on goal conceded and total shots in the box conceded. With four goals in his last two matches Jean-Philippe Mateta (£5.3m) has the perfect opposition to extend his form.
