- NYC have the joint highest clean sheet odds this week, so Matt Freese will likely be one of my goalkeepers.
- This week’s schedule isn’t kind for ‘keeperoos. If you’re running one then you’re restricted to John McCarthy on the front end or Hugo Lloris from the late games. I’ve gone with Lloris but don’t expect much from either goalkeeper, as I think both Austin and Portland will score.
- In defence, I’m looking to take advantage of the NYC fixture. So, I have paired Freese with Birk Risa. I haven’t ruled out taking a second NYC defender either.
- My next two defensive picks are Dagur Dan Þórhallsson and DeAndre Yedlin. Both players are on the expensive side but offer the opportunity for points at both ends of the field given their fixtures.
- My final defenders are Sergi Palencia (or Omar Campos, if he starts instead), who is a cheap, Hail Mary fallback and Malte Amundsen, who has recorded eight bonus points in the last three matches. Amundsen will likely become Kai Wagner if Columbus decide to rotate ahead of their CONCACAF Champions Cup (CCC) fixture.
- In midfield, there look to be a few more options this week. Lucho Acosta, Santi Rodríguez and Joseph Paintsil, who looks to have secured penalty duty for the LA Galaxy, are all locks in my team.
- The other two midfield slots is where we’re likely to see some variation. I like the options on both sides of the Austin-LA Galaxy game: Riqui Puig should do well given his bonus point production and Austin’s poor form. Although, I still expect Austin to score, with Sebastián Driussi the most likely outlet. However, Thiago Almada, Mateusz Bogusz, Robin Lod and Hany Mukhar are also worth considering this week.
- Upfront, the standout options are Lionel Messi, who will likely be my captain once again, and Denis Bouanga.
- The final forward slot probably comes down to one of Cucho Hernández or Christian Benteke. Cucho just shades it for me at the time of writing. However, Benteke has the highest xGI in the league and faces a struggling Seattle defence, so I wouldn’t mind if Cucho is rotated with CCC in mind.

- With the timing of this matchweek, I’ve decided to run a two-scrub autoroo, taking the two best bench players. Since the LA Galaxy game is early, if Paintsil hits I can look to scrub someone else. Even though they held a clean sheet over the weekend, Austin continues to be one of the worst defences in the league right now. Puig and Paintsil are how I plan to target that.
- NYCFC have one of the best clean sheet chances this weekend which is why I plan to double up with Freese and Risa. I fully expect LAFC to concede to Portland, but the timing of that game gives me flexibility which is why I have Lloris and Chanot.
- LAFC, DC, Orlando, Cincinatti, and NYC all have favourable attacking home matchups, which is why I’m targeting Bouanga, Lucho, Santi, Thor, and Benteke. Thor specifically has been consistently collecting KPs and attacking returns at home against struggling teams and Benteke should be able to take advantage of a make-shift Seattle backline.
- Atlanta has not been great away from home this season and Almada has been fairly inconsistent. But Chicago continues to disappoint in every way shape and form so he is worth a bench spot in my opinion.
- Depending how your budget is, Lennon might be a good person to have as well. I’m considering him over Thor.
- Captaining Messi should be a no brainer at this point, even if they are away from home. Especially against a team like New England.

- I didn’t hit with a single defender last week but still had a good week.
- I’m sticking with the ATL Combo on the road against Chicago.
- I will watch the Miami line-up but Messi leads the line again.
- Also sticking with Cucho and Bouanga up top but will watch line-ups there too with Cucho playing midweek.
- Only one Galaxy mid right now, Santi is an option against Charlotte who have been leakier, though Malanda and Byrne should be back this week.

- DEF: Brooks Lennon (ATL; 9.4): Brooks Lennon has 23 points in the last four games. Considering Lennon serves up the occasional set piece, he can rack up both attacking and defensive points if the stars align. He has has been hot to start the season, averaging 6.25 points per game.
- MID: Joseph Paintsil (LA;11.6); Paintsil has injected new life in the Galaxy attack, coming away with a goal and an assist vs San Jose last weekend for a 11-point haul to earn a spot on the Dream Team. He also managed a goal and an assist in Vancouver the weekend before for a 12-point haul. Look for more of the same on Saturday.
- FOR: Messi (MIA; 12.5M); Given his history, it would be risky to fade him as long as he is in the starting line-up on Saturday. He will probably remain the centre of attention for the Miami attack against NER.

- In goal, with a lack of keeperoo options I’m looking to go with the ‘chalk’ with Freese on the front end and Lloris as my fallback should Freese fail to keep a CS.
- In defence, I have paired Freese and Lloris with Thiago Martins and Maxime Chanot, respectively, due to their passing.
- My final two playing defenders are Dagur Thorhalsson and DeAndre Yedlin due to their attacking potential. My last defender is a scrub should my bench hit.
- In midfield, three of my midfielders pick themselves this week with Riqui Puig, Lucho Acosta and Santi Rodriguez all making my team. This is due to their form and bonus points production.
- My final two midfielders are Hany Mukhtar and Robin Lod. This is mostly due to their favourable horn matchups this round. Though, Evander and Mateusz Bogusz are also in my thoughts.
- Up front, Christian Benteke, Cucho Hernandez and Lionel Messi all make my team this round. The latter being my captain should he start.
