Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 Expert Picks and Team Reveal

Last modified date

With a new round ahead, we take a look at Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 expert picks and team reveal. @FPLGunnersaurus joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead whilst also sharing his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.

Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making decisions within our teams. Checking out the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 expert picks and team reveal can help hugely for the round ahead.

Defenders – Alejandro Grimaldo (14.4m ON-SALE / 80% TSB / B04)

There are still one in every five fantasy mangers who don’t own the top scoring player in Bundesliga fantasy. I’ll pretend for a second that some of you reading this are one of those managers and ask you the question what the hell are you doing? For the 20% who don’t own him get him now considering you can pick up a pretty discount.

Don’t let a home game against champions Bayern Munich put you off. Because, in the return fixture the Spanish star scored a worldie of a free-kick and picked up 20 points. 16 attacking returns for a full-back with a third of the season still to go is beyond sensational. Snap this sensational Spanish star up pronto if you don’t currently own him!

Benjamin Henrichs (13.3m / 13% TSB / RBL)

It’s fair to say Henrichs has struggled as of late, as evidenced by not returning a double-digit fantasy score since MD14. That changed on MD20 however as the German right-back picked up 12 points courtesy of a clean sheet and points for firing shots off.

An upcoming game versus Augsburg, a team they fare very well against, presents further opportunity for Henrichs to get back into the swing of things and back to his best which we saw earlier on in the season. In three of his first nine fixtures he returned some big hauls of 16 points, 19 points and 23 points. Prospective managers may pick up another Henrichs haul on MD21.

Maximilian Mittelstädt (7.4m / 6% TSB / VFB)

Stuttgart are the team to target this coming matchday with a favourable home time against Mainz. From a Bundesliga fantasy perspective Mittelstädt is by far their most attractive defender and enters MD21 having scored on MD20 in an away win versus Freiburg. In his last two home games he has picked up a combined 25 points which for 7.4m represents a great points per million return.

With Führich ahead of him on the left hand side that side of the pitch can be deadly for Stuttgart’s opponents. The clean sheet potential is certainly there too with Die Nullfünfer failing to score in two of their last three game. This is a pick that just makes so much sense whether you get Mittelstädt to start or bring him in as a Sunday safety net for your Saturday defenders.

Alternatives – Raum (13.2m / 33% / RBL) / Max (10m / 0% TSB / SGE) / Netz (7.2m / 4% TSB / BMG)

Midfielders – Xavi Simons (16.2m ON-SALE / 45% TSB / RBL)

It should come as no surprise that Xavi is again one of the top midfielder picks for MD21. This is especially when he’s on sale with a 1.8m saving for the 55% of managers who don’t currently own him. Xavi now has nine double-digit fantasy returns in a row and that’s only with two goals scored and one assist registered during that time.

We know the young Dutchman is also capable of an explosive haul having seen that with returns of 22 points on MD1 and 20 points on both MD2 and MD11. In the last 10 games between Leipzig and opponents Augsburg the Red Bulls have won 8/10 with the other two games being drawn. Leipzig have also scored three or more goals in each of their last four fixtures against Die Fuggerstädter. This could also be a sign to load up on Leipzig ahead of Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21. Xavi is definitely a candidate for the star midfielder position.

Chris Führich (12.5m / 33% TSB / VFB)

Führich is the second of three Stuttgart picks for MD21 and rightly so in a season where his form was recognised with a call up to the German national squad. Führich scored in their 3-1 away win at Freiburg on MD20 which made it a total of 12 attacking returns for him this season. Stuttgart host a Mainz side with one win all season which was back at home, mind you all the way back at the start of November.

In his 10 games at home so far Führich has eight double-digit fantasy returns. He is also one of those players who when at home with a good fixture should be an essential part of your fantasy squad. He’s a shoe-in for me, he should be a shoe-in for you too and like Xavi he’s got star midfielder potential taking that incredible home form into account.

Tim Skarke (5.3m / 9% TSB / SVD)

If you’re struggling to make ends meet this matchday and need a cheap enabler in midfield look no further that Darmstadt’s Skarke. Skarke plays out of position and although listed as a midfielder he starts as a forward for Die Lilien. Although they have the worst defence in the league opponents Borussia Mönchengladbach don’t fare much better.

The Foals have the second worst defence in the league having shipped 41 goals and also boast the worst expected goals against away record (2.09xGA). With that in mind and Darmstadt at home Skarke, who has six Bundesliga goals to his name this season, looks like a tasty pick. With the worst two defences on show and this being the Bundesliga we could be in for a shed load of goals in this game.

Alternatives – Olmo (13.8m / 8% TSB / RBL) / Sabitzer (10.7m ON-SALE / 6% TSB / BVB) / Knauff (8.9m / 4% TSB / SGE)

Forwards – Loïs Openda (18.1m / 28% TSB / RBL)

Openda carried on his good run of scoring on MD20 netting for the third match running in Leipzig’s 2-0 home win over Union Berlin. With the Bundesliga top two facing off this weekend fantasy managers may look to leave Bayern and Leverkusen assets behind and the Belgian is probably your best premium forward available. Leipzig travel to Augsburg on MD21 who rank worst for expected goals against at home (1.61xGA). Meanwhile Leipzig have the third best expected goals away (1.62xG).

Openda himself is outdoing his own expected goals (14 scored against a 12.86xG) and is averaging a goal every 115 minutes. It’s safe to say Leipzig’s summer signing has been a certified success and he could be a success for you if you bring him in for MD21.

Deniz Undav (11.9m / 35% TSB / VFB)

Note that I said Openda was the ‘best premium forward’ available. That was intentional as the best forward available full-stop this weekend is Stuttgart’s Undav and costs considerably less then any of the premium forwards in the game. Coming in at 11.9m you can pick up a forward who is averaging 16.8ppg across his last five games. The German forward on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion now has 13 goals and five assists for the season and is in red hot form.

Die Schwaben look to be back in form after a couple of surprise losses and with a home game against 17th placed Mainz we should see a routine home win in Stuttgart’s continued push UCL football. Undav will be my star forward this weekend – no doubt about that. He is a very easy addition into my Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 21 top picks.

Jordan (8.6m / 0% TSB / BMG)

It’s that time of the season where some fantasy managers who are chasing rank may look towards a complete differential to propel them up the rankings. An educated punt this week could be Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Jordan, currently selected by 0% of you. Jordan is expected to start and could be a great one week option and is in form scoring in two consecutive home ties.

Alassane Pléa (13m – 1% TSB) was in the matchday squad for Gladbach’s quarter final DFB Pokal tie however as it was called off due to a waterlogged pitch we didn’t get to see him in action. Should he start on MD21 then he is equally as good an option as his strike partner. Furthermore The Foals host bottom of the table Darmstadt who continue to have the leakiest defence going with a league worst 49 goals conceded.

Alternatives – Kramarić (15m / 2% TSB / TSG) / Ducksch (12.7m / 1% TSB / SVW) / Šeško (11.2m / 0% TSB / RBL)
