FPL Players Returning Home from AFCON Early

In this article we take a look through the FPL players returning home from AFCON early. The Asia Cup is another tournament to consider. However, at the time of writing all Asia Cup FPL participants have progressed to the latter stages.

FPL players returning home from AFCON early can be a major change for FPL managers to consider. Some of the players returning can have a massive effect on the way their teams play or could just simply be a fantastic FPL asset.

Mohammed Kudus

Ghana have once again disappointed in AFCON as they make another early exit from the competition. Ghana went into the tournament without talisman Mohammed Kudus due to injury which could have played a major part in their Gameweek 1 loss. The West Ham midfielder then returned for Gameweek 2 but his two goals were not enough to secure the victory and ended up with just one point. Ghana then went into the final round needing to win and they were on the right path in doing so until their opposition hit two late goals to dump them out of the competition.

With Kudus now on his way home to West Ham it signifies a massive boost for them. Kudus has been brilliant this season – scoring six goals and creating one assist. The Hammers have some interesting fixtures coming up against the likes of Bournemouth, Manchester United and Arsenal. Though many may wait to put money back into Kudus it could be a huge boost for both the West Ham frontline and main man Jarrod Bowen.

Other players returning home

Another welcome return is Ghanian Jordan Ayew. Ayew bagged an assist and two goals for his country during AFCON. Again that wasn’t enough to save Ghana from a Group Stage exit. Ayew left Crystal Palace in great attacking form – creating two assists and one goal in the three games prior. The midfielder will be a much needed presence for Crystal Palace with Sheffield United, Brighton and Chelsea ahead.

Another Ghana player re-joining their club is forward Antoine Semenyo. Semenyo had a very quiet AFCON in regards to attacking output with zero returns. Bournemouth have without a doubt missed Semenyo’ creativity and link-up play with star man Dominic Solanke. With that in mind Semenyo’ return to club football could be a huge boost to Solanke with fixtures against the likes of West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Fulham next.

Other players returning include Sheffield United Yasser Larouci who will depart from AFCON with fellow defender and Algerian Rayan Ait-Nouri, he returns to Wolves.

Tunisia, like Algeria, was another shock exit from AFCON which meant midfielder Anis Slimane will return to Sheffield United.
