FPL: @FPLReaction’ Top Three Picks for Gameweek 21
With the new round edging closer we bring in Fantasy Football Community and Fantasy Football Scout contributor @FPLReaction’ (Louis) to reel off his top three picks for Gameweek 21.
Here I will give you my top three picks for Gameweek 21 to try and help with that. There are some very obvious options with huge potential for the new round and whilst I will list them, I will also provide you with three different picks who I think could also do well.
The Obvious Options
- Bukayo Saka (£9m)
- Ollie Watkins (£8.9m)
- Leon Bailey (£5.7m)
- Cole Palmer (£5.7m)
- Darwin Nunez (7.4m)
- Phil Foden (£7.9m)
- Julian Alvarez (£7m)
- Richarlison (£6.9m)
- Pedro Porro (£5.7m)
Pascal Groß
My next pick is someone I have been including in differential articles for some weeks now.
Brighton have been a frustrating side to invest in this season and I think a lot of the readers will agree. This is of course due to the fact De Zerbi likes to rotate his side like crazy but in fairness they have been trying to balance life in the Europa League as well.
One player in particular seems to be avoiding the said rotation above, Pascal Groß (£6.4m). Firstly it probably helps that players like Simon Adingra and Kaoru Mitoma are with their national sides. This is mainly due to the fact that De Zerbi will probably be relying on him a lot for creativity.
Pascal Groß has played more minutes than any other teammate this season. The German isn’t just a player who starts matches though. In fact, Groß has earned more FPL points than any other teammate too! If that wasn’t enough, and even I was surprised at this part, the Brighton man also ranks with the top four players in the league for non-penalty expected goal involvement in the last six Gameweeks.
With the above in mind and taking into account we all need Son and Salah replacements, I think Groß could be the player we all need this week.
Pervis Estupinan
I’m staying with Brighton for my second pick. I feel like we have waited all season for the best time to invest in the Brighton assets and I think that time has finally come.
Yes we are talking about just the round ahead in these articles but Brighton actually have some lovely fixtures ahead of them. In fact, the Seagulls face teams like Wolves, Luton, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Sheffield United, Everton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest. Looking at that that’s eight green or blue fixtures, depending which fixture ticker you use.
Pervis Estupinan (£4.9m) feels like another player we all need. Defensive assets have been a bit of a car crash this season and the constant attention we give our defence with free transfers is ridiculous. But, sometimes a defender can be worth a transfer in rather than just filling a gap with a player who has some clean sheet potential, and that player, I think, is this man.
Brighton just kept their first clean sheet which could be a sign of things to come. Actually, touching upon their defence, Brighton have actually sustained some mid-table to very good underlying defensive data this season.
Estupinan doesn’t offer just clean sheet potential. The Brighton full-back can be one of the most explosive players in the league when fit. A good example of that is the fact he has managed two goals and three assists in just eight league matches. He also scored in two of his three matches since returning from injury which is quite remarkable. He is probably my favourite addition to my top three picks for Gameweek 21.
Alfie Doughty
I feel like Luton are the only promoted side that have a chance of staying up this season. Recently they have shown grit, fight and everything else you need to to stay in the Premier League when lacking actual quality. They have given teams like Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City a proper game and I think that will continue.
Burnley are up next for Luton, a team I think just lack a solid way of playing and a solid way of surviving the ruthlessness of the Premier League. It is probably a game that could go either way but based on form and eye test I have to back Luton to get all three points.
Luton have had several star performers over recent weeks but the one standing out to me from both a footballing and FPL perspective is wing-back Alfie Doughty (£4.5m). Doughty is such a great player to watch with his hunger to drive forward and create. It isn’t just eye test that makes him a great pick it’s his actual output. Four assists and one goal in his last six matches is quite incredible as a defender playing for a promoted side don’t you think?
There are a lot of issues with defenders at the moment and I think if you are looking at a defender with multiple route to points and someone who will be a constant threat for the rest of the season then Doughty could be the one.
