Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 8?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 8.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least 9 shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.10
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.30

Due a goal in Gameweek 8

Three of last week’s names went on to score in Gameweek 7, headlined by the remarkable 23-point haul of Ollie Watkins. A hat-trick plus two assists for the Aston Villa man, finally fixing his underachievement by overtaking Erling Haaland as the game’s number-one forward.

Haaland’s team-mate Julian Alvarez notched his second in four games to remove himself from the list, whilst Carlton Morris scored at Everton and still has one more Double Gameweek match on Tuesday night.

The flip side of successfully predicting due goal scorers is that it shortens the list to discuss, so we’re down to five. Nicolas Jackson returns to it now that his one-match suspension is over.

An idea that could interest Gameweek 8 Wildcarders is Richarlison, as Spurs’ trip to Luton is the early kick-off. Now that his confidence has been boosted by late heroics against Sheffield United and playing all 90 minutes versus Liverpool, the Brazilian could be a fun differential punt for the next couple of matches.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace’s victory at Man United was the first time that Eberechi Eze failed to reach three shots and was without any penalty area touches. Yet he still picked up a return by assisting the winner.

It can also be noted that Tomas Soucek‘s first goal of the season still led to him being ‘due’ one, racking up six attempts on Saturday. The other name is Neal Maupay – restricted to substitute appearances.
