With a new round ahead, we take a look at Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 4 expert picks and team thoughts. @FPLGunnersaurus (Jay) joins us to give his top picks for the Matchday ahead whilst also sharing his squad going into the new round with his general thoughts.

Twitter is full of the most experienced fantasy football players around. Those managers can be some of the best people to look to when trying to gain clarity when making decisions within our teams. Checking out the Bundesliga Fantasy Matchday 4 expert picks can help hugely for the round ahead.

Introduction

Before I present the usual matchday targets I want to note that European competition kicks off on Tuesday 19th September. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Union Berlin, Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt will represent the Bundesliga in UEFA competition this season. As such their starting line-ups are more prone to being rotated.

I therefore strongly suggest that whilst we have unlimited transfers managers fill out their squads with players who at least are expected to start for their clubs. In other words, restrict your bench fodder assets if you have any. If playing three at the back or in midfield you’re probably safe to have one bench fodder option but make sure the other asset has a decent chance of scoring well. This could prove pivotal if someone in your starting XI is rested or only gets a few minutes, returning next to nothing – and this may even apply to someone you place a star on.

Remember, at the end of the matchday your bench players will replace those from the same position in your XI if they’ve scored higher.

Top picks – Defenders – Benjamin Henrichs (12m / 16% TSB / RBL)

The German full-back is certain to be my star defender for MD4 after some dazzling performances so far. Henrichs currently averages 15 points per game and particularly impressed in Leipzig’s 5-1 home thumping of Stuttgart, scoring and picking up 19 points there. Henrichs picked up an assist on international duty this week too and remains in great form. Leipzig hosting Augsburg is the fixture to target on MD4.

Mitchell Weiser (9.5m ON SALE / 10% TSB / SVW)

A legend from last season might come crawling back into our MD4 squads, thanks to being on sale and with a fixture away to new boys Heidenheim. Weiser reminded managers of how good he can be with an assist and a 16 points haul on MD3. Weiser is one of Bremen’s biggest creators, so whilst they may concede Weiser’s routes to attacking points is why he should be in your thinking for MD4.

Hikari Ito (7.3m / 6% TSB / VFB)

With Sosa having departed for Ajax it’s Japanese international Ito who has filled the left-back void left by the Croatian. Excluding Stuttgart’s MD2 away defeat Ito has starred for Die Schwaben with returns of 20 points and 10 points either side of that. With Mainz (A) up next followed up by Darmstadt (H) and Köln (A), Ito’s fixtures are favourable and for his price he should at least be a consideration this matchday.

Midfielders – Xavi Simons (14.8m / 22% TSB / RBL)

With Dani Olmo out injured the Dutch ace will be Die Roten Bullen’s main creator until further notice. Simons has settled in well to Bundesliga life with two goals and three assists so far. Expected to be the star midfielder of many managers this matchday, just bring him in and do the same – there aren’t many better options out there for MD4.

Julian Brandt (15.9m / 25% TSB / BVB)

The odds of a Dortmund win against Freiburg are high on MD4. Going back to the 2009-2010 season Dortmund have won 20 of their 26 Bundesliga games against the Black Forest club. Brandt is Dortmund’s Mr. Consistent, averaging just under 12 points per game so far. Top midfield assets are scarce this matchday, so owning someone safe and reliable like Brandt sounds sensible.

Chris Führich (9.6m / 8% TSB / VFB)

Potentially this is a points chasing pick and managers may already have missed out on his hauls after he returned back to back home 18 point hauls. That said and as referenced earlier in the Ito pick, Stuttgart have a good run of fixtures coming up. As a mid-priced pick Führich is the best of the bunch on MD4. Even if he fails to perform, managers can keep him for the MD5 home game against Darmstadt which screams another home haul.

Forwards – Loïs Openda (14.5m / 14% TSB / RBL)

The Belgian striker continued his fantastic pre-season form by scoring in Leipzig’s first two games of the season. He may have gone missing in MD3’s win over Union Berlin however a home game beckons against Augsburg on MD4, a team currently without a win and having already conceded nine times. With a shortage of top star forward options available on MD4, Openda could top the bill.

Serhou Guirassy (13m / 9% TSB / VFB)

Leading the Bundesliga goalscoring charts so far with five goals and with a generous schedule ahead, the Guinean forward is a no-brainer as a pick. Stuttgart play Mainz away on MD4 and in the same fixture last season they won 4-1 where Guirassy found the back of the net. Guirassy will be looking to score for a fourth game running and will be determined to continue his hot streak.

Tomáš Čvančara

Gladbach will look to pick up their first win of the season on MD4 when they travel to Darmstadt, who are also winless themselves. Darmstadt have conceded nine in their last two games and the Foals will look to add to The Lilies’ misery. If they are going to then the Czech summer signing will look to repeat his feat from MD1 where he scored twice away against Augsburg in an enthralling 4-4 draw.
