Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 2?

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 2.

Recent FPL goals

Some players had a great opening weekend:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product.

Without the usual four-match sample size of ‘Due a Goal’ articles, here we’ll instead look at the expected goals (xG) stats.

Due a goal in Gameweek 2

The only players to net twice on the opening weekend – Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak – are the duo with the most xG overachievement. All three of the Swede’s shots were labelled as big chances.

Meanwhile, it was different for West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, who racked up six attempts that accumulated just 0.22 xG. None were deemed big but one long-range strike was scored, giving a +0.78 delta.

Emerson Royal‘s 0.03 goal seems a low assessment, considering it was central and on the edge of the penalty area. Then there’s the 16-minute cameo of Brighton’s Simon Adingra, who is now already on one Premier League goal.

On the other hand, the 16.6% ownership of Eberechi Eze will be feeling unlucky. His eight shots versus Sheffield United were the most of anyone this weekend and five came inside the box.

Joint with Isak on a league-high three big chances was Chelsea’s new signing Nicolas Jackson. He blanked against Liverpool but enough FPL potential was shown for managers to seriously consider a transfer once fixtures improve from Gameweek 3.

Finally, Bryan Mbeumo‘s yellow flag status caused him to drop from a template pick to an ownership below 10%. He started on Sunday, scored a penalty but later missed a great opportunity from six yards out.
