Luton top picks for FPL

The Premier League season is edging closer and closer along with the Official Fantasy game. Because of this we direct our focus towards the Luton top picks in FPL. Analysing their defensive and offensive stats from last season to pick out their best fantasy players.

Looking at the Luton top picks in FPL can be extremely helpful to managers. ‘The Hatters’ were very impressive in the Championship and although fell short of automatic promotion they were promoted via the play-offs. But before looking at their players, lets take a look at their early fixtures.

Fixture ticker

Luton have a great set of fixtures to start the season with. They sit fourth on the ticker and face Brighton, Burnley, Chelsea, West Ham, Fulham and Wolves in their first six games. This suggests that they could be a great team to invest in.

The Luton defence

Luton sustained a great level of defensive data last season in the Championship – ranking:

  • Joint second best for goals conceded (39)
  • Joint second best for clean sheets (20)

Luton defensive assets

Below we compare the Luton defensive assets in terms of minutes and goal threat.

Firstly lets take a look at the minutes played to see who came out on top:

  • Ethan Horvath (3960)
  • Amari’r Bell (3865)
  • Tom Lockyer (3443)
  • James Bree (2430)
  • Alfie Doughty (2170)
  • Dan Potts (2008)
  • Gabriel Osho (1973)

We can see that goalkeeper Ethan Horvath leads the way for minutes but he has since left the club. This meant that centre-backs Amari’i Bell (£4m) and Tom Lockyer (£4.5m) look to be the most reliable moving forward.

Left wing-back Alfie Doughty (£4.5m) played 2170 minutes and sits fifth on the list.

Now lets take a look at the expected goal and assists stats of all defenders who are still at the club:

  • Alfie Doughty (6.0)
  • Tom Lockyer (4.2)
  • Gabriel Osho (4.0)
  • Amari’i Bell (3.5)
  • Dan Potts (2.3)

The standout defensive option is Amari’ Bell who maintained one of the best level of minutes amongst his defence last season. His £4m price-tag means he is also cheaper than most defenders in the game.

Another great option could be Alfie Doughty who maintained better NPXGI data than any other defender last season even though he played far less minutes – his minutes could be worth monitoring pre-season.

Another player to monitor is Issa Kabore (£4m) – a wing-back who is expected to start every game for Luton.

The Luton attack

Luton maintained a good offensive line last season when compared to other sides in the Championship – they:

  • Scored 57 goals (well short of other promoted teams)
  • Averaged 1.2 goals a game (well short of other promoted teams)

The Luton attackers

We compare the most efficient Luton attackers in terms of minutes played and goal threat last season.

Firstly lets take a look at how much game time the Luton attackers had last campaign:

  • Carlton Morris (3368)
  • Allan Campbell (3253)
  • Elijah Adebayo (3216)
  • Jordan Clark (3100)
  • Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu (2115)

We can see that the most reliable attacker in terms of minutes is striker Carlton Morris (£5m) after playing 3368 minutes last season.

The second best for minutes was midfielder Allan Campbell (£5m) with 3253 minutes whilst striker Elijah Adebayo (£5m) sits third with 3216 minutes. Midfielder Jordan Clark (£5m) also racked up an impressive amount of minutes.

Now we compare the attackers in terms of non-penalty goal involvement:

  • Carlton Morris (19.4)
  • Elijah Adebayo (16.0)
  • Jordan Clark (9.3)
  • Allan Campbell (4.0)
  • Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu (3.0)

The standout attacker when considering both minutes played and NPXGI is Carlton Morris. Another player worth considering is Elijah Adebayo – he comes in £0.5m cheaper than Morris.

Another player worth mentioning is Marvelous Nakamba (£4.5m). He comes in at one of the cheapest playing midfielder prices in the game.

Pre-season

  • Luton have played five pre-season friendlies so far – they have won one and drawn four.
  • In the four friendlies they played they kept one clean sheet and scored seven goals.
  • Amongst the Luton goals was Carlton Morris and Mpanzu.
